Where do you guys buy your T-stat? I called the Dodge stealership and got a quote of $65. Cummins NW wants $75. I have found one on Geno's for less than $20. Any info would be great. I do not want a cheap one. Thanks.

I'm not sure if there is a price difference between the 12v and 24v t-stats, but I picked up a Cummins t-stat for my '95 at a local Kenworth dealer for $39. They had a better price than Cummins and it was the same t-stat, in fact the Kenworth dealer had to get the t-stat and gasket from the Cummins dealer... makes no sense.

Yeah I don't know why everyone has different prices. I called the local Napa and they have a price of $26. That seems fair. I think I will pick one up tomorrow along with the CATERPILLAR EL coolant at a local CAT dealer.

I've used both the NAPA stat and the Cummins stat. The NAPA stat is just a regular looking stat. The Cummins one is much beefier and from what I have read seem to last quite a bit longer. There are lots of people who have had good luck with the NAPA stat and others will only use the Cummins stat. My local shop only will install the Cummins version and they say the anything else is just not built for this motor. The Cummins stat has a big runner ring that goes around it to help with the vibrations of this motor. Either way I think your OK. Right now I have a Cummins stat in my rig and have no issues. Pick one and run it.

Thanks TWHEAT

Thanks for the info TWHEAT. This is what I was looking for! I am going to Cummins NW on Friday and pick one up. It may be pricey, but I will have one that is built right.

I used Stant just because thats what ive always used never had a problem and go the FAILS OPEN to prevent catastrophic engine problems, JMO on the Cat coolant ITS SOME GOOD I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER NO DOUGHT but when I took a look at it the cost was like 30 bucks a gal. not bad for the 5 or 6 hundred thousand miles you are supposed to be able to get out of using it. But I dont think that the water pump or some other cooling component will last that long and then to drain the coolant and keep it clean seems like a PITA when its just as easy to pay 13 bucks a gal at Napa and not worry about reusing it when you need to change a component

BIGNASTY, I only paid 14 bucks a gallon for the CAT ELC. I bought this brand because I did not want to do any mixing. And it does last a long time. Less than 84 bucks out the door for 6 gallons seems very good to me.
