I'm for one sick and tired of replacing boat trailer lights - and I've replaced 6 sets of lights - from all of the manufactures. My problem is not getting water into them - but the fact that I drive over rough roads regularly - like 30-50 miles of forest service dirt roads routinely with my fishing boat. I think the banging is killing the filaments in the bulb. WELL guess what - they now make LED LIGHTS for trailers! MAN are these great. I put a new set in - the complete light assembly - now I've stopped this problem! You can search - but check out http://www.buytruckstuff.com/ledlights.htm

Very interesting. Is the housing completely sealed? I've been through many a set of lights. Finally got a set that aren't sealed but have open spaces to let water out and these have lasted longer than any of the others, even in salt water. However, even with diligent rinsing, I'm sure corrosion is just a matter of time.

LED lights finally solved my boat trailer light problems as well. YOu can also find them for sale in the Northern catalog and most trailer supplies. One version is made by Peterson.

All that I have seen are completely sealed.

They are much brighter and really enhance the visibility of my boat & trailer (really good since the boat is unpainted aluminum).

FYI,

Acadamy Sports and Wal-Mart now carry LED boat trailer lights here where I live and they are cheaper than any that I have found on-line.

I have these on 2 of my boat trailers. They work great. You kinda have to stand behind the boat trailer and "aim" them in the right direction to get maximum intensity.

The other day I bumped one trailer with the others trailers (LED) light and cracked the light enclosure. I have submerged the cracked light on several fishing trips and even though it fills with water it still works fine.

Not sure how long it will last.

JUst an FYI. . I saw one manuf's claim that the mega count led lights use only 2 lead LEDs and they break off a lot and the lights with just a few leds have 4 lead LED's which don't break. Not sure how tru the claim is but let us now how the long term test goes.

Johnny5- there is alot of truth to that, and it largely depends on the quality of the LEDS and the manufacturing process as well. After going round and round trying the less expensive stuff out there, I've learned my lesson. That being side, I tend to stay clear of the cheap brands- you get what you pay for.
