Well my truck came in today and right off I noticed they forgot the Fog Lights. That was one of my #1 wanted options, partly 'cause I like the looks, but more than anything, I wanted the factory switch.

I'm hoping it won't be a big ding dang deal to get the correct parts and install the factory fog lamps EXACTLY factory WITH the factory switch. In doing a search the posts I found talked as though the switch would be separate which ain't gonna cut it :(

I just talked to the salesman and he says they will take care of it, he's been good to work with, so hopefully it will work out.

Other than that I'm peachy king and can't wait to pick it up tomorrow afternoon :D :D

GREAT that your truck came in! :D

BUMMER that it came in wrong (well, just a little wrong  )

I want to see your 18 " wheels on that puppy!

Congratulations.

Vaughn,

Sorry to hear your truck didn't arrive as ordered... . I'm sure they'll work it out for you though!

On a brighter note... . CONGRATULATIONS on the new truck!

Have fun! -Ken

Corngratulations on the new truck. They should be able to put in the fogs and switch just like factory. I doubt that it will be a biggie:) .

Vaughn, glad to hear your truck came in! I think mine will be here next week. Did you order the Snow Plow Prep Group? If so, did you and your salesman get into the alternator discussion?

Thanks a lot you guys :) I'll get some pictures posted as soon as I can (probably Thursday). I'm pretty darned excited! Even more now that I found out my Credit Union is running a special 3. 95% financing this weekend. Now I can get $2000 cash back and be able to finance at my credit union and save $250 over what I would've paid going 0% with Dodge Oo. Only catch is gotta wait 'til Friday to pick it up :(

Stiffler, didn't get the Plow Prep, mild winters in this country and not much snow (if we get any). Besides I got a 2-wheel drive.

Just wondering if fog lights come standard on the Laramie package? Or do I have to order them seperate?

Vaughn,

Congratulations on your NEW ride! Hope you enjoy it like I do. Did you get the laramie? If you did, the lights come standard, or they are supposed to.

The fog light kit for mopar comes with a separate switch. It will not be the factory switch on the headlight switch. It is a very little switch that they put just left of the steering wheel column on the dash. Maybe your dealer can get the stock switch witch they would have to order. I have had a couple of kits put on for my customers. Hope this helps and enjoy your new ride!!!Greg Thiessen :)

Factory Headlight switch w/ fog (pull)

The Mopar Accessory Fog light kit comes with a factory replacement headlight switch that pulls out in park and headlight position to turn on the fogs.

The switch is the SAME as factory.

At least the ones we have been installing down here. .

Vaughn. . IMHO... hope the fog lights are a second switch. . that way they will keep the heat down on the light switch. . as long as they use a different relay . . the factory light switch is way over taxed with the fogs on there. . mine runs very warm and I'm considering a second switch and relay as some others have done

Congrats Vaughn! I'm looking forward to seeing you and your new ride at the next bombing mission Oo. Oo. Oo.

By the way Willyslover, My switch doesn't get warm at all. Maybe you should have the dealer check yours out

new ride

Congratts Vaughn,so what's the bombin your doing on the new ride? Sorry to hear that no fog lights. I hope the dealer gets it right for you. Eric

Hey Vaughn, I read somewhere that if you get the Mopar fog light kit installed, it will let the fogs stay on with the brights. I would think this would be a good thing.

By the way congrats on the new truck, Oo.

GregT & shortcut, I'll find out tomorrow what I can get exactly, but I definitely want it incorporated into the light switch like stock.

Willyslover my current truck's switch runs warm too. It's because there is a large heat sink on the switch assembly that gets hot. If Prarie Dog is right then everything should be OK. One thing I've never liked is drilling holes and adding switches here and there. I hope RankRam is correct the Fog Light kit will enable continual illumination!

Eric & PDog I'm looking forward to the next NW BOMBers gathering, will be glad to show it off :D Hopefully Piers or DDP will do another dyno event soon. Not doing much for BOMBs for awhile, maybe a few cosmetic goodies :)

18" wheels

Oh yes and about the 18" wheels. They're a set I bought used for the '01 but then found out the offset is about 1" off from stock causing them to stick out an inch further. While that is OK on a 4x4 running 35s, it's not OK on a 2-wheel drive. I was haning onto them to see if they'll fit the new truck but doesn't look like they will (and will be for sale). They are 18x8. 5" Monsoons, 5. 25" or so backspace, +10mm offset.

continual illumination

When you/they install the fog lights. The directions have you tap the power for the fog relay to the light harness. I am a little fuzzy right now on which wire they WANT you to tap, but that is the point that turns the fogs off with high beams. Tap the (purple?) wire in the fog kit to [ hmm can't remember if it's a + or - tap ] and the fogs will work with ignition on and fog switch on, high beams or no. If THEY install the kit, ask to get the directions if they won't wire it the way you want.

... Technical...

The headlight switch does get hot, and it does have a heat sink to draw away heat, and I have seen many Durango and Dakota headlight switches fail, mostly fog light circuit in switch.

The switch is a multiplex switch(MUX)... one wire supplying diff voltage to do different settings. They get the different voltage by running the current through resistors, the most resistance in the switch circuit is through fog-park-headlight resistors. All the resistors do is convert the extra current to HEAT. They updated the switch so I don't think the failure is still a problem, they designed it to work... but ya never know.

Congratulations on that new truck Vaughn I think you will like it. I remember back in 85:confused: I ordered a truck and something did not come on it I ordered and back when I ordered my 91 it was suppose to be a 4x4 and it came in a 4x2:eek:

The heat being generated is more from the dimmer circuit for the dash lites. The lower light you use the hotter the switch. If you have the dash lites off the switch may get warm from other current but if you run the dash lites on low then you could burn your fingers after an hour or two. This resistor type circuit has been used for many years to dim the dash lites and it still works best due to current loads.
