This is getting to be an annual rite of spring for me. Got rear ended today. Wasn't a MB this time, just a Isuzu Rodeo. He did not drive away. I'd like to put on an heavy duty aftermarket bumper. What your favorite? TIA

Tom

Tom, I just put on the Ranchhand front and back just for this reason, they are stout and will do just fine... ... ... ... ... . Kevin

Mark Kendrick has a real cool Ranchhand rear bumper, I'd hate to be the one who hits that one!

Find one of his posts then click on his rig pics, or just find it in the readers rigs section, I think it's under "SILVER CLOUD".

antisubmarine bar

Bang for the buck. An 8" drop hitch with a 2" ball works well for me.

More damage to them. Less damage to me. Sometimes it lines up with the crash sensor to add fireworks too!

Sometimes you would think there is a sign on the bumper saying " Look under here for a secret password" cause they drive right under.

Hey Tom,,You got to take the target off the back of the truck in the spring time OK,,Think the one on Wiredawg's truck from Brown's Welding is a fine piece,,I'd hate to be the guy to hit it thats for sure,,Sorry bout the bad luck, let me know if ya need a hand installing what you buy..... Andy

i purchased a 3/8 inch thick 4''x 6'' tube from a steel supply house . have them cut it to length nice and square. the 4x6 size allows you to bolt on a schuck hitch receiver to the bumper from the inside. got some 3x3 x3/8 heavy angle and welded to the bumper. any welding of brackets to the truck requires disconnect of alternator and batteries . The Schuck unit is built in celina ohio and sells for three hundred . it will pull fifty thousand pounds and has a one ton tongue weight . they also sell bumpers . info on schuck cushion pull hitches is -- schuck fab and design 8319 us 127 celina oh 45822 419 586 6431. I bought mine from a local dealer for 318. 00 it is very well made and swings rearward and side to side . Not affiliated with anyone

I don't want to bust anyones bubble here but aren't bumpers supposed to cave in during impact to absorb stress so it isn't transfered to the driver or to the frame of our vehicles, After reading about Steve St 'Lawerence's experiences with the ladder bars and cracking frames due to the frame not being one piece. Don't get me wrong those aftermarket bumber look wicked. Anyone else have any ideas on this.

I've got the same brand of bumper on mine. It took a pretty good hit from a Tahoe a few months ago and didn't even scratch it. Tore some front end parts off here truck. With the 2" receiver built it, it is rated at 10,000 pulling and 1000 lb tongue wt.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Hammer, LOL on the target. My body shop guy when told I'm going to put a HD bumper on, said "You'll just get hit higher by a crane truck or something"

I remember Wiredawg's bumper. I'm looking at everything.

Mactruck, I already have a pic of your truck printed out for reference. And Mark Kendrick's too

Spaceace, I'm with you on the traler hitch. The only reason I have as little damage as I do is because the hitch took 90% of the impact. Like I said, the Isuzu did not drive away. Neither did the MB last year.

doodad, You are probably right to some extent. However, my trailer hitch has been hit twice and nothing has happen to the frame. I say the hitch because I don't think the bumper did more than cause damage to the lower part of the bed. Thankfully mostly paint damage. Like gitchesum said, he was hit by a much larger vehicle than me and it did little or no damage. Now, if some drunk hits me at 50 mph, all bets are off.

daveshoe,

4" x 6"-3/8" is some HD stuff! My neighbor is a blacksmith, ordimental iron work, structural welder, you name it when it comes to working with steel. He's fabricated some weird stuff for me for house renovations. (Why is it plumbers of bygone years just think that they can cut everything out of their way and expect it to stay in place for the next couple decades or half century? LOL) Went by his shop this morning and he had some 10" x 10" 1/4" tubing. :--) That might be a little overkill, but he said he can get whatever I want. I'm printing out pictures of all the bumpers I can and will go to him and probably come up with something. I'm thinking of tying it into the existing hitch, but will take a look at Shuck's stuff.

Thanks again,

Tom
