I had a new trans put in at 36000 mi, 47 days ago. After 4000 mi I was having issues with the way the tc would lock up and then it stayed locked. Took it to dealer and was told I needed a new tc and had to pay $100 deductable again. Dont seem right I should have to pay deductable for their falty part. Any help or thoughts?

The warranty on reman trans now is 3 years 80000 miles $0 deductable through Mopar. If you paid $100 ded on the 1st trans, then it must have been powertrain warranty or service contract, either way the new (reman) unit should now fall under the 3/100 mopar reman warranty. Politey inform your dealer (see the service manager) if that doesn't work call Chrysler.

Dave

Yeah mopar parts are covered under a 12 month 12k mile warranty. If it is transmission related it should be covered.

Either way you should not have to pay anything

At 36k I would guess the trans was repaired under warranty... ..... correct? In that case your warranty does not get extended because they bought it not you. The way Chrysler looks at it is you will now be using your power train coverage(or svc contract) that calls for a deductible. In some cases calling the 800# may help.

I took my truck in for a water pump. In service date is Feb 04. They tried to charge me $100 deductable even after I pointed it out in writing that the deductable starts in the 6th and 7th year. Got to stay on them!

I have only manual trans for this very reason, but thats another conversation. The TQ, I believe is not considered to be part of the trany, kind of like a fly wheel is not part of the Standard trans and if you have a trany failure you should replace the TQ even if its an extra cost. I lost a trany in my 95 Shadow with 30K miles and mentioned this to the tech and he installed a new TQ at no cost. Never replace a trany without a new TQ. When you change out a gas engine, you don't install the old ignition parts.

No you shouldn't. Dealer is wrong. Bet factory rep would think so also. Call Chrysler first. 1-800-992-1997. The service manager should be able to handle it without a Rep approval. Common sense says Pay What? He would not be happy or think its right if HE was in your position. If trans was replaced it came with a torque converter. If it was repaired it should have been replaced . A knowledgeable trans builder always replaces the torque converter.

X2... ... ... .

In his 1st post he said they want "another $100", which means he paid $100 when the trans was replaced. If he paid $100 the 1st time then he was "involved" in the repair, which means he has all the same warranty benefits if had paid for the whole trans job the 1st time. A Mopar reman trans comes with converter and will have 3yrs/100k warranty parts and labor. You shouldn't have to pay for anything related to that trans for quite a while ;)

Thanks to all for your info. I have been told again by the service manager that I do need to pay. I am going to call 800 number in the am. Thanks

The way I understand it is you receive the benefit of the factory warranty as long as it is still in place. If the factory warranty expires and you still had remaining 3/36 from the reman part, then it would be free. Seems backwards, but that is the way it has always been.

Every time I return to the doctor he charges me again, no exceptions, and it's more than $100 for a visit. Maybe the trans repair is not a bad deal!

Your correct sag2. BUT 45 days and 4,ooo miles on a major drive train component on a vehicle that also JUST ran out of the warranty. Fair is fair but asking for $100 bucks in THIS situation is ludicrous. If it had been a year and 15k yea maybe. But not this short a time. I was in the last dealer I worked at Saturday just to say hi. Service manager signed off on a brake module setting a intermittent CEL on a out of warranty truck cause the owner had a $1400 customer pay bill with 41k on the truck and 37 months old. Tech walked up and asked with me standing there and was told "yea WE can help him with this"and signed and oked that repair. So Chrysler is STILL allowing some shops at least to make their OWN decision on such if its called for. This situation described is a no brainier if it is as stated.
