I had my '98 broke into in broad daylight at a Home Depot. Didn't even see the damage at first it was so small. Must have used a screwdriver under the plastic part of the door handle. I have jimmi jammers on my '06. I know it won't keep anybody out, but it might slow them down enough so they move on.

You all are so true about 'thieves will get in' regardless.

My intent past that is to deter and minimize damage to the truck during their attempt. I have all kinds of decievious ideas short of hurting them, for which I will go to jail. What laws we have.

I do like the ammonia idea, although you will get slapped with a lawsuit so fast your head will spin. And with the top-notch legal system in this country, you will end up paying out more than your truck is worth.

Ironically, I only lock my doors when around friends, i. e- at their houses, at work (which, by the way is inside a barbed wire locked fence), at the firehouse, ect. . so they can't do all the "immature" crap we have all done- grease on the steering wheel, turning volume all the way up on the radio, rolling all the windows down in bad weather, ect. .

Let's face it, crooks are gonna get in whether you like it or not- I will allow them to get in with as little exterior cosmetic damage as possible.

Maybe pepper spray then?

I liked the James Bond movie where the bad guy ignores the "Alarm Protected" sticker on 007's ride, procedes to break the window and gets BLOWN UP. That's a little excessive, but I think the sting of something temporary just to get the "wrong one to mess with" and "get a job, loser" message across is perfectly fine when they have willfully invaded a place they shouldn't be.

Will I get sued if somebody gets mauled bcause they're stupid enough to get into my truck while my 2 Rottweillers are asleep in the backseat after a hard day of playing? I sure hope not. It wouldn't be my fault, and certainly not the dogs' fault. (sure like to get it on video though :D )

I met a Swiss traveller who was somewhat security concious in his travels along the Pan American highway in his old Land Cruiser. He had that plastic attached to the windows so you cannot break through it. My favourite was a giant wad of cash in his glove box. It was a huge roll of all the most worthless money the world over. He figured the entire stack might be worth $50. But it was very impressive budle of cash. It was his 'hijacking' bait in case he got jacked. It was just well enough hidden to make it look not too obvious, but much less well hidden than his real money, which was tucked underneath the piston skirts in his engine.

i like that idea... how about one of those cheap air horns mounted under the pass. seat in the cab that will go off when the alarm goes off. . that 130db is loud enough to make your ears hurt plenty. .

so...

smoke machine for cab and engine compartment

pepperspray and/or anmonia misting in cab

130db air horns in cab

:D:D:D

I ordered a set of four Jimmi Jammers and will put them in soon. I'd been thinking about this for a few months, and finally decided to buy them. The only problem I see is that $71 (four plates plus S/H) seems a little stiff for basically four pieces of flat plate with some bends and holes in it... Oh well... Nothings too good for my RAM... :-laf

I just received my JimmiJammers as well. I thought the same thing, why so much money for such a simple piece of bent steel. But oh well, deter, deter, deter...

Back to the whole bodily harm, our legal system is setup such that you are not entitled to """hurt""" anyone. If however you feel they are endangering you, your family, or your real property (I believe this is the term) you are entitled to take lethal action.

Its along the lines of someone robbing you at gunpoint while you're carrying. If you shoot to injury, then you obviously didn't fear for your life. You must shoot to kill, or you are going to jail faster than the thug.

Back to the thread, it sucks but as many of the other posters have stated it is becoming entirely to common. To many people want they have not earned!
