Extended Idle How Long Is Too Long????

cummins crank shaft

I posted this on the 3-Gen Form then decided this was the correct place for it.

I still have about 3 weeks to wait for delivery and this is my first diesel truck.

Any advice on questions to ask or things to check on delivery day would be greatly appreciated.

I'd just check to make sure you got every thing you ordered and that there is no transport damage to the body/paint. Drive it a quite bit the first day to make sure nothing is wrong. Then go home and read your owners manual end to end. If you have any questions ask them here, you'll get better answers than any dealer.

ANOTHER!!

Find a bumpy stretch of road on the way home to shake out any UNobvoius problems (Like mine ..... NO SHOCK BOLTS UP FRONT!!!) man what a racket

jdiebold , First of all congratulations on your new truck.

If the dealer told you that your truck was comming in through the port it might not happen that way. Some vehicles do but mine came in by CSX/ transport truck when I ordered mine from Hill Kelly Dodge.

Make sure that EVERYTHING is correct BEFORE you take delivery. I took mine out back by the RV center and inspected it all over. Ask for a Vehicle Info and Summary report w/ All Vehicle Options from the service dept. It will give you the codes for every option on your truck. I would use the report against your order list to make sure that the truck is as ordered.

Once again, CONGRATULATIONS and I hope to see You around Pensacola... ..... Thomas

Be sure you inspect in full daylight and the truck is dry.

Even though Dave Fritz's checklist is a few years old, I modified it for my use. I showed the dealer the list and had them park the truck out back. Took me over an hour to get it done. Dealer was cool about it.

Ditto here, printed checklist, went to dealership (another state) and ran thru whole list prior to signing. Glad I did too! Found a few things... . but for that you'll have to wait for next TDR issue. The good dealerships aren't scared or pestering when you are being thorough.

Congrats on the new ride!

My 03 had a very loose stearing gear. unfortunately it was only noticeable after driving it for some time. It tended to want to drift from sided to side in its own lane. I had to over correct to keep it going straight. it was a real handful. My 93 never handled like that.

The dealer (Monroe Dodge of Wa. ) told me nothing was wrong with it. I was able to drive another truck that had a tight steering gear and it felt great. The service manager couldnt feel any difference and couldnt explain why my gear had visible slop and another truck didnt. Although his "technician" claimed Dodge designed IN the slop for 03, he wouldnt explain why another truck didnt have said slop. According to him, all of the trucks on his lot were loose except the one I identified as being tight. The truck would be impossible to tow with that way. I was told that if they could not feel any problem then they would not do anything for me. I walked away with the feeling that I am going to be in for a battle every time I need warranty work. Time will tell.

Does anybody know of a GOOD dealer for service work in western Washington State?

P. S. - This dealer ship is a very nice place to PURCHASE a new truck, unfortunately I cannot recomend thier service dept though.
