Was changing my rear main seal this weekend, clutch still looked new so I cleaned up the flywheel and sprayed it off with brake cleaner, I thought! :eek: Turns out I grabbed the carb cleaner instead, reinstalled transmission and now my clutch slipps in fifth gear pulling hard. :( Will it wear off/burn off or is it new clutch time? I really don't want to pull the transmission again, the older I get the harder to recover from that kind of work. :{ Any guesses if it will clean itself off? I checked and it seems the carb cleaner has a lubricant of some type in it. :confused:

Hey Roy, sounds like your'e getting to old to operate that thing, I'll gladly come and take it off your hand's. $150. 00 should cover my gas bill :-laf

Well lets see, I am getting too old, what was we talking about? :confused: Wasn't bad enough the clutch slipped but while I was test driving it the wiper linkage fell off, one of the rubber bushings rotted and the linkage fell off the motor. Now I have to go out looking for that tomorrow. I am hoping the clutch will clean itself off in time, bad thing is it is almost a new clutch. :{

I would have to think that it will burn off in short order, as long as you only sprayed the flywheel. If it was sprayed on/saturated the clutch plate, that might take a while to clean up, just take off in third gear around town for an hour that will take care of it. :D

Nothing to do with Roy, but I see you're in St Augustine. Next time I'm over in Neptune Beach/Jacksonville, I'd love to look at your compressor & horn rig.

Well, get it cleaned off quick, the dyno is coming!!! Like last year, Dave Dunbar is bringing his relocatable dyno to Suncoast Converters in Fort Walton Beach. Don't pass it around to too many people, 'cause we had a bunch last year without publicity. January 27th, first come, first served.

http://www.suncoastconverters.com/dodge/dodge_products.html & look for the "Events" section.

http://www.dieselperformancemotorsports.com/ shows info on the dyno.

Hope to see you there this year!

Think I goofed with fly wheel???

Im shure it will burn off , but here is a trick to speed it up

if you got a conveiant hole to get at the fly wheel

you can either spray the the brake clean , or start fluid will work too

as long its the lube free one ,

or spray or squirt rubbing alchol in it if possible wipe down , with a cloth , possibly in the starter opening hole

the best trick though is spray or squirt a can of coke on it it will make your clutch grab just fine , note its great for the batteries too

Well good news, I drove it about 20 miles today and it worked fine, guess the slick wore off. :) Next time someone knock this old man in the head and tell him he grabbed the wrong can. :eek: Got the new bushings for my wiper linkage so bring on the rain, I'm back to 100 percent with no oil leaks and wipers that wipe. Oo. Sorry Alex but I guess I will have to keep it a little longer. :-laf

I had to start making sure I did not buy brake cleaner and other products in the same can. I kept making the same mistake.

Most of the carb cleaner I have used is pretty much straight acetone which should leave about zero residue.
