I have a 01 and a 96 I am thinking about trading them in a new one Just wanting to know If any body wish they did not trade there old truck in or if it was the best move they ever made??? I have not drove one yeat . Are there still lift pump problems with these trucks??? any other big issues with the 3rd gens. I just Want to pick some brains out there to see if you wish u had not of traded or vise versa???? Thanks Justin

I tradeed an 01. 5 with 35K for my 04. 5. Only thing I miss occassionally about the 01. 5 is the Cummins sound, but I love the quiet of the new ones. Many more opinions will follow.

Had a '95 for 100k miles and then a '99 for 80k. . now an '04. Enjoying the '04 hands down over the other two. Both previous trucks were very good trucks but the ride quality and handling don't even come close and the power of the '04 is much better... stock to stock of course ;)

After having a 1st. generation truck for 12 years, We love the quietness of this 04. Its a pleasure to now be able to talk with my wife and hear. Yes ! I am hearing impaired and this really helps.

Sold my 2001 2500 4X4 and bought my new 2005. I have just over 2000K on it and it is far superior to my 2001. I know there are many, on this board, that will tell you something different, but not many of them have a new 3rd gen.

The four wheel disk brakes are much better then the ones on my 2001 (disk in front / drums with ABS on rear). The difference is noticable.

The 2005 has more power then my 2001, even though my 2001 had an Edge chip in it.

The 2005 is much better riding, is quieter in any condition (compared to the 2001) and the new G-56 6 speed is superior to my old NV4500 5 speed.

The extra room, in the back, is significant, if you carry passengers. I usually don't but the new room and doors make it easier to carry cargo.

Does this mean it is the best that Dodge has ever produced, or will be trouble free??? NO... It may or may not be as dependable as my 2001, but if I worried about that too much, I would probably never buy a new vehicle.

Give me another 50K and I'll let you know how it all turned out... :D

After going thru the same thing about a month ago I went for it and traded. I am very happy with the 3rd gen for more reasons than one. Everything about it had me saying that is was not better than my old truck but different in a good way. The sound of the '02 and the suicide rear door are somthing I miss, the quiet and full rolldown rear door are a deffinent improvement. Overall I have been more than happy with the trade. Even with the EZ on the '02 the new truck pulls like I've never known.

You are better off money wise selling the 2G's privately. Heck, I would like to have the 96 you have. Convenience wise, it is easier to trade. Your choice as to which is more important.

JBrookshire, let me know if your interested in selling the 96 outright. Always looking for another 12v :)

still dont know???

well this is the situation I am in. I have the 01. 5 it is a 2wd reg cab duelly have had it for sale & added and not many intersted people it has 49,000 miles stills looks new I bought it with 7,000 miles on it I love the trick just need the 4x4 part. so I found this 1996 4x4 ex cab duelly I bought it it had 225,000 miles on it I thought no biggie these things last a million miles. Well now at 242,000 I am having some good blow by out the crank case hose. Had it looked at by a buddy who was a engineer for cummins and desinged the motor and to make the story short 2 blown turbos later he says u probly have a scuffed cylender. So I thought I could sell my 01 and take some of the money and rebuild the engine. well no luck so far so I thought about goung this route. I know ,sounds dirty in a way. I also thought about pulling it in and taking the head off and seeing if that is the problem... So What would you do??????? Justin

Traded my 99 for a 2004 and miss my 99 very much. It had more power and just a better truck. It was a 2500 and my 04 Is a dually long bed. It just sits In the garage.

To each his own... The suicide doors are one of the biggest reasons I was glad to go with the 05. Trying to load something in the back seat, when someone was parked next to me, was a nightmare... :D :D

Don't trade the 96. If you really want to get rid of it, just put a for sale sign in the window and it will be gone before you drive around the block. Everyone wants one and they are probably the easiest vehicle to sell. (Ask way over book!)

At first I really missed my '01. But now less and less each day. The steering is better on my '04, as well as the brakes. The interior is a compromise I'd say. I like the rear seat and rear doors better on the '04, but I like the dash and front seats better on the '01. I don't miss the crap auto transmission and the lift pump on the '01. The NV5600 in the '04 is awsome as well as the smooth quiet power of the HPCR engine. I had stacks on the old one and liked them as well as the sound of the engine, but I am learning to live without all the noise. The '03 - '04 models still have some sound compared to the '04. 5 and newer I think. JMO. :)
