I posted the link because in the TDI enthusiast world it's kind of a big deal, and there are stuck threads in the related forums to have people who experience the failure document it with the NHTSA, so they may possibly use the information gained to further their investigation, which possibly may result in a component recall, or warranty extension.

Volkswagen is not consistent with their warranty coverage of the issue, and there are many conflicting reports as to the reason(s) why.
Having each case documented with concern, cause, correction, etc is the closest anyone will get to the "whole truth" in regards to how many vehicles are affected, whether it is trending towards particular failure triggers, etc. Putting all the relevant info in one place.
I'm not taking either side on the matter, just posting information relevant to the vehicle this thread is about. My '09 TDI is running fine at the moment.
People on this very forum have expressed concern in the past about how/why Chrysler doesn't admit to known vehicle faults and stand behind them. The NHTSA investigations are what gets the recall balls rolling in the auto industry.
