Hi y'all long time since my last post (too long to explain why). I am thinking about buying a new '09 2500 ctd Bighorn. I am concerned about all the negativity on the 6. 7.

I have a couple questions in general and welcome all opinions

1. Is the 6. 7 as good or better than my 5. 9?

2. I want to be able to plow, can I plow with the manual transmission it seems the snow plow prep package isnt available with the manual do I need it?

3. For normal non-towing use do I need to be concerned about the rear?

thanks for all your help and expertise in advance

Chris

6.7

I don't have any experience with the 5. 9 but in 2 years and 11,100 miles I haven't had a lick of trouble with the 6. 7 or the rest of the truck. Based on my experience, I'd recommend the 6. 7... and I've got one of the early ones. The '09s have 3 years of refinement and debugging on mine. The exhaust brake is very nice, especially when towing. Tons of power, reasonable fuel mileage for a 7,000 pound truck, and the easiest to drive truck manual transmission I've ever driven. Go for it and enjoy!

The only thing I would change would be to get the 3. 42s instead of the 3. 73s.

With 25000 on it now and no trouble so far, I think the truck is great. Far better to drive and ride in than my 96 was. Never had a lick of trouble with that truck either. I feel sorry for the folks that have had trouble, but think most of the trucks are doing pretty well , we just hear about the ones that are not.

Go for it! My new truck is twice the truck the'99 was. The only thing so far about plowing is after being in the same parking lot for about two hours, my overhead said PDF 90% full, I had to leave and drive down the road to put it in regen mode to clean the filter. I love plowing with this truck. my '99 was an automatic.

Good luck

Thanks for the responses folks, I appreciate the feedback. I've read the horror stories about the regen process and the new more complicated emissions (aka blue-tec).

As to the question of why is that the mega cab is too big to plow where i need too so the smaller bed and quad vs mega will be alot of help.

Any opinions on the diff options?

Also I have a smarty for my 06, does anyone know if it can be madee to work with the '09?

thanks

Chris

heard the 10's might have revised exhaust only 8 more months new sheetmetal and interior i would hold out for that one i i had to spend the bucks .

my 08 was perfect truck too ,

sooted up, EGR, the exhaust filters and all the sensors ECM software kinda chokes it up, removed muffler and duals out the back, gotta have the warranty intact for now

hope to get it back tomorrow new warrranty turbo maybe the dpf is next hit 20000 miles mostly highway brake on most all the time stuff started happening after 12,000 miles . now been at my dealer 3 times to bring all tsb's etc. up to date and will go over it with a comb for all new updates to be complete.

he's on speed dial now

i shoudnt have to worry about all this but the check engine light sucks i just wanted a new truck that didnt have a lot of headaches, wrong , it started out ok then changed at about 13,000 miles

Oh yea now i have problem with the oil level climbing up the dipstick and oil viscosity dilution from fuel contamination

i am doing oil samples and have logged this into the dealer service file

does run good when it runs right

Sorry about your troubles, Austin. I've had a couple, egr recall was done, h=34 was done, had p2262 a few times, tech redid computer to not set code as early, has done the trick so for. from mid March to early December I pull a trailer, about 6,000 lbs. , 99% of the time I think that helps these new trucks ( being use hard ). I also think some of these trucks are better than others for some stupid reason. Good luck with yours.

Love my 6. 7. Mileage is even great with the EGR unplugged. It seems pretty dang fast stock, even compared to my '06 6-speed manual with a Smarty.

And no, the Smarty will not work with the '09. Totally different programming. A Smarty is supposedly in the works for the 6. 7.

Well I did it pulled the plug

Hi everyone,

well as you can see from my sig I did it pulled the plug on a new 09 Big horn 2500 with 6. 7 and 6spd manual. truck has 44 miles on it and i love the ride.

Do the dodge pac brakes only come on the auto's I dont see one and I thought they were std

comments?

Do you mean the exhaust brake?? I am not sure if they come with a manual transmission but I do not see and reason why not. I have never driven a manual shift but the exhaust brake button should be located in the same area for an auto and or manual, if the exhaust brake is included with the manuel. Look down in the center of your dash below the radio. My truck has the sliding rear window no heated seats so my button is to the left of this switch cluster. My three switches are heated mirror, sliding window and the exhaust brake. I have a push on/push off button that lights up whenever the exhaust brake is enabled. You must turn this on every time you start the truck, run the brake every time you start the truck this will help to prevent soot build up in the turbo. I use the exhaust brake first than wheel brakes to stop will save brake pads. Hope this information helps you?

yes the exhaust brake is on the 6. 7 manual transmission the same as an automatic it's built into the turbo... . i have two of them g56 six speed trans

You'll enjoy the new 6. 7. I'm sure you'll have many trouble free miles out of the new truck.

Mine has been great. It sees limited heavy work with 60 mph 15 minute driving. It's at 27000 miles with no emission problems. It gets a workout in the summer and hauls with no shortage of power. I was going to go with a 2006 and older 5. 9, but after a short trip in the 6. 7 and the tighter steering, the newer 6. 7 was the winner. I'm not regretting the 6. 7 in the least. :)
