I had a 90' for 7 years never had a problem with it. My 97' has been nothing but a problem. I must let you know all the problems have been driveline.

transmission, transfer case and rear, I now have put all of that new in the last month, but still wonder if i should just go back to 1st gen.

There seems to be a lot of this going on lately. Not just switching to a (much) less complicated rig but folk adding a first gen to the stables.

It worries me cause the price of these trucks will steadily increase just like when folks started buying up John Deere Two-Cylinders back in the late 80's and early 90-'s at an unpressidented rate.

How does a Ford 350 w/7. 3 sound to you? :-laf

Thats just not right Scott. :-laf :-laf

With the amount of work you had done. If it was all done by good mechnic's I would stay with the 2nd gen for a while and see what it does now with a almost new drive train under it. Replacing it with a 1st gen might mean the same repairs all over agin a little later on. Our 1st gens aren't getting any younger.

you might be right, but i found a 93' w350 4x4 w/5spd that must of been owned by an elderly gentleman who ownly used to pull his 5ver. The caddy must of been his daily driver. This truck has 96k on it and looks like it's 2 years old. Might just have to add it to the stables. That would give me a 1st and 2nd gen ext cabs 4x4 w/5spds both black w/gray interior. We'll see,

the best part of the whole thing would be ******* off my wife,(another toy)

We all know that the driveline is the weak link in any of the generations once we start to mess around with adding power.

That said I'd stick with the added creature comforts and power of the 2nd gen now that you sunk all your hard earned cash into it.

But if you are ADDING it to your harem, then I say do it. Oo.

Then you'll only need a 3rd gen to complete the set. :-laf

Come back to the fold grasshopper, That's my 2 cents, a better truck than the 1st gen dodge has never been made, don't take my word for it, find another single type of truck that runs the miles these things do without major repair, simple as that. I would be suprised if your driveline issues couldn't be figured out with proper help though.

railroad Jim, I just put all new transmission, trans case and rear diff from Blumenthals, hopefully that will get me another 300k. My 1st gen had 235k

when I sold it and was all original except for brakes and tires, oh yeah shocks.

the only mods were straight pipe and the pump was turned up, which brings me to my next response to Jleonard. We did my dowel pin and the pump at

Jays sons garage in CT. That was about 4 years ago. Jay are you still running that same truck. I think it was a 91' 2wd if correct.

I guess i missunderstood, you have 300 thousand miles on your 2nd gen but it's been problematic the whole time??

my first gen is the love of my life!

sure she's old but parts are cheap(if you look around a little) and easy to work on!

i'm not saying it's the best but like a old dog it just becomes part of you

91 250 727 dana 70 3. 00

I can certainly appreciate your wanting to revisit the past, I recently sold the 90 w-250 5 speed I had bought new, it served me very well with no problems at all, well, the odometer did stop working around 250,000 miles ,but I drove it for quite a while longer,, it still run fantastic when I sold it ,, still with original clutch,, but now I have an '05' 3500 4x4 and must say , for the comfort and power differences , it would be hard to part with let alone go back to the buckboard wagon type ride of the 90.

I would not want to give up either my 91. 5 W-250 or my 98 2500 12 valve for that matter. The 98 215 hp 5 speed 2wd is heaven on a road trip. Around town or on the job site, make it the W-250. And ya know, there's just nothin' quite like rollin down your hand crank window, resting your arm on that nice flat spot spot on top the door, rowing through the gears in your vintage 1st gen! Did I say vintage? I guess I did! Keep the 12 valve, GET THE 1ST GEN!... . Kenny (LAcity FD)

yeah I suppose i could tell everyone about it, it's on ebay, you won't believe this truck. 93' club 4x4 w350 5spd with 96k a real cream puff. Some old guy used it to tow his 5ver and that was it. It had 33 bids and went up to 12,500

in the first 2 hours. GOOD LUCK!

Very seriously considering taking the 287,000 mile first gen engine, and putting it in the 99 overvalved electran weak block piece of trash.

The only thing that ever broke on my 97 was, uh, "self-inflicted". :-laf

Oh yea sleddy we know of your self-inficted wounds. :)

What you were doing with the 97 anything is going to break. It doesn't matter what year it is.
