has anyone made the change, or have an extra beer window laying around?? I would really like to get one, and was curious as to just how hard they are to install. . my window is one solid piece, and sometimes, like in the summer, I would like to have one, so I can open it up, and get more breezes through the back... someone please chime in and let me know if it is worth it.

I second Curtis. IMO the factory slider is worthless in a quad cab because you can't reach back there and open it. My intent is to swap out my slider for a power one.

I like my slider. It makes it real easy to get in when my keys are locked in. I had never locked my keys inside before I got this truck. Now it's been at least 5 times in the last year.

My head has been in my @$$ lately :p

I installed a CR Laurence slider a few years ago. I had the glass shop install it because it's one thing you want done right the first time. I'm happy with the window, though if I had to do it again, I'd probably go with the factory slider - only because it opens wider and both my dogs could fit their heads through at the same time.

yeah, I forgot to mention, I like the double slider. . It allows more room for the puppy dogs to stick their heads through, but those of you who have seen my truck know that cannot happen, due to the headache rack, which is good so no one can break in through that back window... . has anyone installed one???? I am a do-it-your selfer, and was wondering...

The first thing I did was place wooden dowls in the tracks to keep it locked. the few time I have had them open they just seem to suck all the crap out of the bed into the cab.

the line in the middle of them is good for using to line up on the 5th wheel hitch when backing up!

I do things like this for a living. Cutting the old backglass is pretty much a PITA unless you have power tools. After you get the old glass out & the old sealer removed, the body & slider must be primed and the slider bonded to the body. As the cab roof depends upon the windshield & backglass being correctly installed for its strength, I strongly recommend you get a qualified installer to put the slider in.

If you want to come to Houston the next time we have a "tuner day", I can do it for you as long as we have access to a compressor.

Bill do you do Sunroof/moonroofs too ?

Saw a member post about putting a sunroof/moonroof in his truck (the one that retracts into the roof).

Was wonderin' if you do that too.

Thanks,

I have a power slider in my 96 CC.

I like it because it doesn't have the seam in the middle which my old trucks have had and it's more secure than the traditional designs.

As others have pointed out, if it's open at highway speed, stuff will tend to get sucked in the window, rather than out.

Compressor?

It may be too small, but I have a 26 gallon/5HP compressor. . :p What kind of power tools do you need? I am starting up a tool collection, and my shop (a small corner in the garage) is going to be named The Warranty Station. . Not too bad of a name, eh? Oh well, just a little humor...

The compressor sounds like it's big enough. You'll need cut-out tools from Equalizer (in Round Rock). One has a hooked blade that oscillates and the other is like a jigsaw with a fixed sheath over the blade. If you like, I'll bring my catalog home tomorrow night and post the part numbers.

Sorry, Merrick- I used to do pop-ups, but they went out of style. Economy here isn't too good for $1200-1500 sliders.

Does anyone make the full sliding rear window that slides down? Like the window in a limo between the driver and passengers?

C. R. Laurence used to but I believe they discontinued them- MAJOR leakage problems.
