Dennis:
You're being smart, and I'd do the same thing as you. I researched a lot before hand also, and it really helped when I made my deal. I learned a lot on the Edmunds site, and I decided not to deal with a salesperson. I went to 3 dealers and asked for the top dog and told him what I was going to buy. He had one shot to give me a good price, then I moved on to the next one. No games, no "I have to check with my boss". It worked well and saved me a lot of money. Don't forget about the farm bureau rebate. Joining the farm bureau for $37. saved me $500. - a no-brainer. Good luck and don't let them pressure you. #ad

Two issues:
#1. Four Door Rams; The roof tear-off company we sub-contract to has a four-door RAM Charger V10 based on the '98 2500 frame that is registered in Mexico, but they have brought here to Sacramento, CA, USA. It's black, awesome, and cost the owner only $16,000 US in Mexico. (he also told me that he has to register it in Mexico only once every three years.

Issue #2: I leased my 3500 for 6 years at 15K miles per year and put $8,000 down. After only one year I have 31K + miles on it, so I'll have quite a bit of mileage over the lease maximum of 15K per year when I reach six years. Should I sell it now(I love this truck) or should I just plan on making it my retirement truck and make 10+ years of payments on it?

RobbyRam - I've never heard of such a plan. There's no way on God's green earth I would've been talked into leasing, especially for 6 years, and especially putting 8 grand down. I don't know what to tell you on your deal, I don't understand it. But I definetly evaluate which direction (for you) is going to cost you the least. Run out the lease, sell, return the truck, or whatever else you can do.

Dennis: Here is what I heard:

2001 Rams came out in Jan 2000 due to CAFE (and a rumor that they needed the diesels to comply with the EPA air standards that each Mfgr has to meet - thus the rebates later in the year when they were overstocked).

I placed my order in June 2000. Factory shut down in June and didn't tool up until last week in July. Mine was born on Aug 3.

Those built after the new production run late July on, are being referred to as the 2001. 5 and the differences from the 2001 are the 4 wheel disc brakes and $400 less on the list price. A few misc items like lighted visor mirrors and stuff like that are no more, as well as the side molding is
slightly different.

I'm happy with mine so far. If I were in the market now, I'd pop for the 2001. 5 and cash in on the rebate. Might be wise to watch closely and wait to see what developes in the future - fears of recession and all - And buy at or below invoice!
