Great Clean Puzzle......

After I sell my camper I won't need my 4x4 dually, so I was thinking of making it into a srw and installing a flatbed. A post from Grizzly asked why not trade it for a srw and save the hassle.

Yes, I suggested that you just get a SRW truck and as much as I like Toyota, for what you want to do with it, I would stick with a Dodge/Cummins. A 3500 SRW with a Cummins is much better, stronger, more economical and better resale value then a Trunda. My wife and I each have Toyota cars and we love them, but when it comes to a pulling machine, I'd stay with Dodge/Cummins.

Just to spread MORE rumors (I can't find the links now): I heard that the Tundra was having camshaft breakage problems, but Toyota IS buying brand new engines for people reporting that problem. :)

Toyota admitted that they were targeting "traditional Toyota owners", as they are having a hard time breaking into the traditional American pick-up truck market. Their own polls indicate that new Tundra buyers already owned a Toyota automobile. :-laf

Just my nickel's worth. :p

Try this: Load up your trailer with your 7K and take it with you when you go to the dealer. Unhook the trailer and re-hook to the Tundra, Take it for a drive with the trailer on the Tundra, see which one you like. Proof of what you are getting will tell you what to do. Good Luck !

YOU ought to look at the new Dodge . IT runs on 8cl. when in hard pull 6 when in light pull and on 4 when running at ease, Check it out!!

The Toyot tundra is made here in my home town! Employs get money off if thay by it from a dealer. There are trucks setting all around with for sale singns on them. Thank it over verry good .

BEN PRINCETON IN.

I have finally regained my senses and decided to keep the truck.

Not only am I keeping it, my lift pump went out last week so I now have the FASS system, Smarty, and Bobs hoses. Next week the gauges and ATS manifold will be installed, in addition to the Banks exhaust and AFE Pro 7 I have on it.

It is like a new truck with the Smarty!! and it's only on level 3.

If you're unhappy with the ride of your DRW, change the shocks to some sort of adjustable ones. I did and what a difference! Whole new animal.

The guy that said Toyoda is junk needs to get out of his cave. I have owned 3 Dodge Cummins and they are a good truck. I had the pleasure of driving the new Tundra and the fact is there is no 5/8 ton truck out there that compares. Fact: The Big Three are sending our jobs to China. Fact: Toyoda is hiring American workers and building plants here FOR A REASON. We know how to build cars and trucks. Fact: Big Three American part content is less than 30%. Fact Toyoda within 3 years will be selling 3/4 and 1 ton trucks with CAT diesels. Yea I know you think this guy is a bsing us. Sorry this is a fact. A little hint NASCAR what cars have CAT on the hoods. How do I know this, I supply OEMs with manufactured parts for over 30 years. So all you guys that want to knock Toyoda need to search the facts. Buy American and put our people to work but search the facts to determine what Company is really American.

Fact, I wouldnt take anything you just said for fact because you cant even spell Toyota right. CAT has already said they want nothing to do with the pickup market. They have no need, or want to. And from the few new Toyota Tundra owners I know, they dont like the new ones. The interior was a step back, and yeah its fast, but with a load its no better than any other half ton. They might hit the HD market one day, but from what I have heard, Nissian and Toyota both put their HD pickup lines on indefinate hold... whats that tell ya?

I have the Rancho 9000's on the truck already. One thing that really helps is if I drop the tire pressure from 80 down to 50 psi.

Dropping the pressure sounds like a good idea since the recommended settings are 65 in the front and 50 in the rear. 80 sounds like a bit of overkill.

Not overkill if you're carrying a 5200 lb camper and have a GVW of almost 14k lbs. I'm trying 70 psi with the camper now and it seems ok, tires look a little low but not bad.

I have the Cooper Discoveries and the max capacity is at 80 psi.

Sakichi Toyoda - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

How ironic, that the founder of Toyota spells his name Toyoda. Betcha didn't know that. :D

I'm guessing the Japanese manufacturers came to the conclusion that a non-US badged conventional cab HD pickup or C&C wasn't going to be a big seller, since Ford, GM, and Dodge/Sterling pretty much OWN the market, and the dicey US economy, weakening US dollar, etc. factor perhaps just as heavily.

Speaking of Toyota employees and Tundras (or should it be Tundrae :D ) One of my Soldiers originally bought an 04 model he himself helped build (and ironically repair on the line, cosmetics). After returning from Iraq, he traded it on a really nice F150.

Ask yourself where the profits go to. Tundra = Japan profits GM, FORD, CHRYSLER, = USA PROFITS Don't think for one minute that Toyota is a friend to us. It just wants our money. I was stupid enough to buy a 2004 Camry that had the engine seize up at 11,000 miles. If that is the type of engineering that Toyota does, I will warn anyone that wants to consider them. I will never send any of my money over there again. Learn from my mistake.

What profits?? the big 3 haven't made a whole lot of $$ if I believe any of the annual reports they have, better yet, the only reason the did not show any more loss than the 10 s of billions in the last couple of years is that their non US business did make a profit. How american is it that they close all these factories, buy out all the expensive long time employee's and hire new personel in at half cost, with the blessing of the UAW of course. I am all for buying USA, but as long as they do not listen to me the consumerthey are going to be horting, I buy what is best for me in my situation regartless of who makes it, it is the American way.

Ask yourself why the factories are closing. Ask yourself why they haven't made a profit. It from people like me who were swindled into thinking that they made a better product. WRONG! If you're buying what's best for you instead of buying a surperior American brand product, than you're part of the problem. That's not the American way. That's your way. I made a mistake in buying a Japanese brand product. At least I'm big enough to admit it.

Sorry to be leaving TDR...

Well, I just couldn't stand paying 5. 60 per gal for diesel(4. 14 for gas in SF CA). So I put my 06 4x4 MC on Craigslist for 27000. 00, sold it in one day. It had 60k on it. Was getting 21mpg W/Banks six gun. I bought a new 08 Tundra DC (26500. 00 out the door) 4x4, 5. 7. I have 1500 miles so far 21. 67mpg (350 miles)best tank 18. 1 worst tank. Not bad! I don't miss the door post movement everytime I open the driver door, I hated the interior, the MC space was great, but I do enjoy parking the Tundra. Also don't miss the thin sheet metal and the check engine light always coming on (P-2609). The Cummins 5. 9 is the best engine going. I have to thank all at TDR. This is "THE BEST FORUM FOR DODGE CUMMINS". I want to give a special thanks to STEVED for helping me with my surge in cruise problems(never did get rid of it), Also TWEST for helping me with my PDA wake up and all my Banks ?'s. And Again all at TDR THANKS!!!

I read an article in American Hunter that had a really good review of the new Toyota Tundra with the 5. 7 v-8 (381 hp/ 401 ftlbs) and 18 mpg+.

I stopped and looked a couple today and they seem pretty nice. Didn't drive it, but it should do well on power. Enough to tow a 10k gvw 21' toyhauler that I will now use once a month or less.

We drove the Dodge today down to LA and it is definately a truck, empty it rides like a tank, so I think the Tundra will work out better and make a better traveling rig.

Once I sell the Lance I plan to list it in the Auto Trader. Not sure what it's worth but I know I won't recoup all of extras I have on it. Buckstop, Banks exhaust, Aeroflow 60 gal tank, Hy-Tec pans, etc.

I'm going to try to drive the Tundra in the next week or so, to see if it's what I want.

I'll keep you posted.

FWIW, Trailer Boats magazine tested the five 1/2 ton p-ups in the 3/07 issue towing a 6840 lb Chaparral 256 SSi with the following results:

Engine 0-60 (T/NT) MPG (T/NT) Tested $$

Ram 1500 Mega 5. 7 19. 7/8. 9 9. 2/12. 9 44. 1k

F150 Super Crew 5. 4 21. 2/9. 1 8. 4/13. 6 44. 9k

1500 Sierra CC 6. 0 19. 6/8. 6 8. 8/12. 2 42. 2k

Titan CC 5. 6 18. 6/7. 6 8. 9/13. 1 37. 1k

Tundra DC 5. 7 19. 5/7. 5 9. 1/13. 2 NA

They also tested the 3/4 ton TD's in the 3/08 issue towing a 9300 lb Bayliner 246 Discovery with the following results:

Silverado 2500 EC 6. 6TD 18. 6/9. 4 9. 4/16. 8 50. 8k

Ram 2500 QC 6. 7TD 17. 2/8. 5 10. 1/15. 4 51. 6k

F250 CC 6. 4TD 18. 4/8. 2 9. 1/14. 8 55. 5k

I would say that 18+ mpg out of a Tundra is a dream. The 3/4 ton TD pickups are almost as quick when not towing, but definately quicker when towing (more weight!!) and achieve better mpg's when towing and not towing compared to the 1/2 ton pickups.

Thanks for the info. I tow a 20' Alumaweld around (2500lbs) once a month and a 25' house trailer(7500) 1 week deer hunting. Compared to the 30k a year commuting. I think Tundra is the way to go. The 18. 1mpg was some highway some town 60/40,21. 67mpg all highway @ 65 in CC.
