I think I posted the size and rating somewhere ... 235/80R17 E.

Mine are HT's not MT's and thats interesting that they do not list them in the USA EH.

Up here we can now get the Michelin LTX in 235/80R17 but that is just what I was told by the folks where I got my tires at the last rotation. They were not available when I got these TOYO's. Still glad I got these.

Quiet, smooth and wear real nice.

The Toyo web site is not always up to date on the current size tires available. I'd double check with a toyo dealer about what's out there.

Les Schwab carries the Toyo 235/80 17E H/T tire. In fact they told me they have been pushing them lately, and have them slightly marked down. Of course, in true fashion, for this dually only tire, the store has 4 of them... Salesman said they had over 2000 in inventory in their warehouse, though.

Thanks for the info Alaskaskiff, I appreciate that!

I did find the Michelins... $1,400. 00 :(

Got a quote on the Firestones for $933. 00, hope they come in before I have to get something else!

I've just spent the past hour researching tires for my 03. I had wanted to go with a little larger tire (245-265) but with my 5k lb. Lance camper I think I would rub the rear duals. Also, if I stay with the 235 I won't have to buy another spare.

I checked out the Firestone transforce, but the web-site only listed their capacity at a little over 2k lbs. I'm assuming this is a misprint.

The Cooper Discoverer S/T looks good as I would like to keep a slightly aggressive pattern. A buddy has the Cooper ATR's on his srw Ford and really likes them.

I've never owned a Cooper tire so not sure of the quality. Any input would be appreciated good or bad. If these don't work out, I will probably go with the Michilens.

My Goodyears are actually wearing very well. I have 44k miles on, close to 20k carrying a slide in camper and still have at least 5k or more left, however, the sidewall cracks are getting pretty big and I don't want to have a blowout carrying my camper and towing a trailer. 17k lbs + gcvwr

Hopefully now that Ford has the 17" wheeel, maybe our selection will improve.

Regarding rotating tires every 5K.

Can be hard to do at times... . especially if you rack up that many miles in say a week or two.

Me thinks if I was in that mileage category I'd get one of those deals at Wally World, Les Schwab, or etc. where they rotate the tires for you on their tire care plan.

For those of you considering the Firestone's. The new Transforce A/T is NOT the way to go. Can't speak for the Transforce H/T yet, have not sold enough of them. I have sold enough of the new Transforce A/T's to say that they do not and will not hold up. One of my customers is a state fleet using various light trucks, including Dodge 3500's, Dodge 1500's and Durango's. We were running the Firestone Steeltex A/T on the 1500 and 3500 trucks. We used the Transforce A/T which replaced the Steeltex A/T. The new tires gave less than half the mileage of the old version and were prone to chipping and tearing.

A side note, we sold and installed a set of the Michelin LTX M/S LT235/80R17 on a dually. What I noted is that they are way narrower compared to the Goodyears we took off the truck. We then compared the Michelin to the Generals that are on my truck, again very narrow compared to the General. Dunno what to say of this, but they did not look quite right on the truck and I hope they wear well since they are expensive. If they will last, they will be worth it, if they don't... .

For the user who is using a LT265/70R17, there is no LTX M/S, you are stuck with the wimpy, no traction in the rain and snow LTX A/S. I think you may find the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo to your liking. It is now built in a Load range E tire.

Wally world would not sell me the care plan. all they said is "we have had problems in the past with Duallys and we just keep away from them. "

I bet they had one that the wheels were frozen to the hubs :(

Is there really that much of an advantage to running the 19" tires I've seen advertised in the TDR magazine besides more mileage due to less RPM's? I would think (it could happen) that the steering geometry would change pretty drastically. I bought my 3500 quad-cab to tow a 34 foot 5th wheel and it came with the Ameri-trak Generals. I'm in the market for a boost gauge and a pyrometer. This will probably be the extent of my "after market" purchases for this truck. Any input concerning tires will be appreciated.

The main advantage I see is the ability to get an actual commercial grade tire, which is something D/C should have done in the first place ..... cheap . . well you know. . #@$%! Lets face it, the stock GY POS's and it sounds like the generals just don't cut it. :(

Where to start...

I got a whopping 35K out of my factory Generals. Total crap. At that time (about 1 yr. ago) there weren't many options available so I went with Rickson 19. 5's and locally bought Mich XDE/MS tires. I went with the 6. 75" rim so I could get the 245's and a lower rpm. I think it actually hurt my mileage. Too many factors to tell for sure, but I might go to 225's next time. BUT... that'll be a little while. I should get 80-90K out of these Mich's if the current wear rate keeps up. I'm giddy about the wear rate, but less than impressed with mileage results.

Wally world would not sell me the care plan

When I swapped out for the Ricksons I had Wally World in Helena put them on because I was on the road, it was during a cold snap,my bottle jack wasn't working right, and the OEM jack was out of the question (since then I bought a different jack). They only charged me $6 Total!!! Which was well worth it. Three hours later when they were done  , they came in and wanted to know why the %$^& I was putting those tires on and where I could even get those kind of tires. :D :-laf

If you are planning on putting the Ricksons on for a mpg gain I would reconsider. Just the weight difference wouldn't add up to a mpg gain. Plus you can get close to the same diameter effect with a 16 or 17 inch tire, e. g. 255 85 16s or 235 85 17s. The big reasons for the 19. 5s seem to be the wear mileage, for load bearing and safety when hauling heavy, and the cool factor  .

I have been running Hankook DH01 drivers and AH10 steers for about a month on ice and snow. My personal assessment is they are doing okay as far as traction goes. However, I'm sure I'd be better off with the Cooper Discover STs on for traction purposes. Also, the fronts tend to follow ruts more. I don't find this overly annoying, but rather more a getting use to how they drive differently. In summary, at this time I like them, but the experiment drives on and I'll know more after winter is behind me. :)

I just got 6 Michelins a few weeks back, I wanted to go with the Toyo's from Les Scwab (they have always been good to me although others hate them). But the Toyo's were $1440, and I got the frog tires LTX M+S for $1192.

I had BFG Rugged Trail T/A 265 - 70 17s put on my dually.

I have about 1 inch between tires.

Load range E.

Speedo is 1. 5 mph fast at 70mph. Reads 71 to 72 at 70 by GPS.

I had the 4 tires I took off a single wheel ton and just had to buy 2 for front and a spare.

I pull fifth wheel and gooseneck without being close to rubbing.

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but I needed a rotation done as I have 18K and the fronts are showing some edge wear. Someone posted that Wal-Mart was staying away from Dually's so I hope this is helpful. America's Tire Co (aka Discount Tire depending on region) does free tire rotation, wether you purchased the tires there or not. Have traded with them here locally for other vehicles so I took the truck there and they rotated for free. Said it has always been their policy. Gave the kid a $10. 00 tip and was on my way.

What about a set of 16'' steelies from a pre-'03 truck

I'm looking at an '06, since I just sold, perhaps foolishly, my 96 3500. Is the backspacing and lug pattern on these new 17'' rims the same as the old 16'' rims? I have had extreemly good luck out of the Michelin XPS tractions that were on the '96. 50k miles and 12/32 depth to go all the way around.

Rescue Ram, the problem is the brakes are too large to clear the 16" wheels.

Would be nice if Michelin would build the XPS series in a 17" tire. Goodyear and Bridgestone have tires similiar to the XPS, same thing though, only built in 16" sizes.

I keep hoping for a reasonably priced 19. 5" wheel set up. The cost of the 19. 5" tires is not much more than the 17" tires especially after you figure in the longer tire life. But the price of the wheels is killing me. Keep wondering when Alcoa gonna live up to their promise to build a bolt on 19. 5".

245/70/17 = 30. 5" height

235/80/17 = 31. 8" height

that seems a little short

i currently run 285/70/17 = 32. 7" height

i don't think i could go that small and be happy

i would be happy with stock height thou.
