I have subscribed to CR for many many years. I love them for things like TVs, laptops, and coffee makers. Items I just want to work and have no knowledge about.

For their car reports I've seen the surveys for filling in and it just ends up in the round file as I don't have time. Now if I was having lots of issues and was ****** i'd do it.

For buying a truck, CR would be the LAST place that infuences me.

They rated my 1974 Toyota Hilux as a reliable buy. DW,surging, clutch pedal would drop to the floor intermittently, gutless and the tailgate rusted through. POS.

If your truck does you good that is all that counts! Owned 96 2500 06 3500 14 3500 and they are all still doing the job!

As much as I love my Ram, I have to agree with CR. Or maybe it's that I'm now out of standard warranty & have to pay for some repairs myself that it's much more painful. I have owned Ram diesels since 2003, and am now driving a 2011 Laramie, right around 52,000 miles. On my 3rd set of left side ball joints, seems like it's now an annual repair. I'm also on my 3rd carrier bearing, and suffer from frequent brake overheating incidents (only one wheel at a time, they seem to take turns). And can we count the number of u-joints? Oh, and the tailpipe just rotted off the muffler and was clanging around under the bed.

There's also something wrong with the steering that no one can diagnose. When it's aligned to spec, I have to hold the steering wheel hard to the left to stay on the road. So right now the alignment is adjusted way out of spec so it goes straight down the road. The dealer can't figure it out.

So, again, I love my Ram, love the Cummins, but I have to agree that this truck is very unreliable.

Bummer!! Maybe someone on RDR can help you with that steering problem. Are you using the dealer, sometimes they just aren't up to speed.

CR set the tone for me in the 80's when they evaluated the Chevy Cavalier and the Acura Integra. The Cavalier was recommended, and the Integra was not. They have underscored my opinion of them consistently since then.............

I think CR was taken out of context from what I read on earlier replies to this post.

I know I have had two major issues now with my 2012 Ram, First the Wiring Harness had to be replaced a month after I had it and two weeks ago the front carrier bearing in the differential attached to the driveline totally melted and came out as I was driving on the highway in 2wd. The bearing race that came out was hat enough to cause a fire along side the HW and the U joint and one foot of driveline was still cherry red (still attached in the back) after I put the fire out. If I had to fill out a CR report on the truck, it would probably not have been rosy of a picture. Other than those two major problems, I have not really had any and I still really like my truck. My dealer sales people however after this latest problem, lets just say I will not be buying any more vehicles from my local dealer any time soon if ever.

Consumer Reports is heavily skewed in favor of Foreign vehicles and against the American SUV and Pick-up Truck!
They've been that way for years. I used to buy the magazine subscription and found exactly as has been mentioned, above.
As has also been mentioned, the article is about second hand information. It is not original research or hands-on findings.
Just a regurgitation of someone else's negative commentary.
If I want to know about a RAM Truck, I will check in with TurboDiesel Register.
Let me tell You! I've been watching TDR very close;):D
