On the I-shaft near the firewall, you'll see the rubber isolator and rivet strap assembly. That assembly has a plastic anti-squeek clip that goes around the I-shaft tube. There were 2 designs, 1 has plastic teeth the other (older style) doesn't. Either way, spray that plastic clip with your favorite type of lube concentrating on the clip to tube interface. Hopefully that helps... If not, you'll need a bigger amp :-laf

Put your hand between the driver's door panel and the end of the dashboard around the fuse cover. Make a fist so that you can put pressure on both surfaces. Does the noise go away?

check TSB23-19-00 creakor squeak near left or right side of instrument panel . noise caused by metal joint between A pillar and dash panel plenum lower rubbing together. TSB can be found at fritz site under 1998 to 2001 body. good luck.

Here's another one. On my truck it is the friction fingers holding the knee panel up. I removed the panel and no more noise. So I then sprayed those fasteners with silicone and they were quiet for a year or two. Now they have started squeaking again, so it's time for the treatment again. Oh, yes. It is also temperature dependent.

i had a similar noise that bothered me to the point i considered selling my truck.

it sounded like it was coming from the column/e-brake area without a doubt. turns out it was the auto transmission linkage in the engine area. i had to remove the inner fender liner to lube it.

shifter

i know this is a old post but i think that i have the answer you are looking for. i had a squeek that drove me crazy for a long time. i would hear it while driving and sometimes outside the truck when i slam the door. it ended up being the linkage for the shifter that runs down behind the drivers side wheel well. it has plastic bushings and it is bolted with a bracket to the body. the other end is connected to the trans. this makes for a part that moves and twists with the torque of the motor or bumps moving the body slightly on the frame mounts. i hit all the linkage on my truck from the column outside the truck all the way to the trans. NO NOISE... ... THANK GOD!!!! hope this helps!!
