I'm out of touch, been too long since I participated in a car club, traveled around to the events, or even paid much attention.

In summer of 1998 a friend and I drove my then restored and mildly rodded '57 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe to Los Angeles and drove with the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour group back to Mt. Clemens, MI. We saw thousands of cars of all stripes, and hung out with many of the big names in the car hobby. My interested has waned since then.

Thanks Guys. I really enjoy driving my stuff. I am going to take the green truck down the track this year, I bought some sticky tires for it, so I should be able to get some bite now. I would like to take the GTX on a couple legs of Power Tour this year. It rides pretty good out on the road.

My family, starting with Dad and his Chrysler 300's and Desoto's, have always been partial to Mopars.

I'm from a large Catholic family, here's my memory of Mopars...
52 Plymouth sedan, 57 Desoto 2dr 341 Hemi, 59 Plymouth 2dr 318 bb, 62 Chrysler 300 4dr hardtop, 63 Chrysler 300 2dr hardtop, 64 Plymouth Valiant coupe 273 V8, Dad had too many 64/65/66/67 Chrysler 300's to remember, 68 Barracuda fastback 318 auto, 68 Barracuda 340 4spd Formula S, 1970 340 auto Plum Crazy Dodge Swinger, 1970 383 Mag 4spd Orange Roadrunner, 1970 'Cuda(mentioned above), 1970 383 Mag auto red w/black vinyl top Charger, 1971 Purple Challenger,71 Plymouth 383 Mag Sebring, 73 Yellow w/black vinyl top 340 4spd Cuda, 75 Charger, 76 Cordova.

This was all before I was 25 years old. . for a fact, I know some of them are no longer with us, saw my first 68 Barracuda after it struck a power pole, driver's side, broadside, my younger brother is alive...

These are some great cars.

JJPage, imagine if your dad would have kept all those cars over the years, he would have a museum today. My uncle is a GTO fanatic he had several over the years. He bought a 69 judge from an old timer in kentucky 15 years ago. It had been sitting in a barn for many years and was in rough shape. He spent the next 10 years and countless money (he knows but wont say how much) restoring it to original factory specs. He actually sold a 65 to finance the build. He regrets selling it and all the others he had over the years, at least hes got a beautiful car to show for it now though.

I didn't really have anything special in the day..... I ran around in a '70 Nova, but my good friend had a '70 Chevelle 454 (LS5). I sold mine and he had his stolen. Never did we think what some of these would be worth what they are now.

The one I am kicking myself about is a '69 Charger RT that I had a chance to buy in the '80's that I passed up. It was a factory #'s matching RT 440 car. It needed a little work, some minor rust around the quarters and some interior work, but it was all there and really clean. The guy was asking $3000 and he wouldn't budge. The idiot I am/was thought it was too much.

Yes Dad was always trading cars, which was strange being an over the road truck driver he didn't get to drive them that often.

He did stray from Mopars every so often, and made some trades I could never understand... He had a mint green 2drht 57 Buick Century that he traded for a brand new 62 Studebaker Lark???, then He had a gorgeous burgundy w/white vinyl top 69 Thunderbird Landau 429 Cobra Jet that he traded for a new 76 302 Maverick?? Oh well.

Jess, One of the contributors to the extensive site is Curtis Redxxx (?) whose father owned a big and influential MOPAR store from the '40s up until the late '60s or into the '70s. The store may have been in MI, I've forgotten, but he had close ties with Chrysler. The writer describes in his own words each years new models and how his father the store owners, his grandfather, customers, and the public reacted to them. He is a car guy and wrote in great detail a series of stories published in allpar.com. I read all of them and found them very interesting. I remember all the cars he wrote about. You probably do as well. Check allpar.com. I think you'll enjoy it.

The thrill of the chase! ;)

Nice '57 pickup. My buddy has a '58 that needs a complete refresh, it has been siting for years.

My fun ride ride is a '68 Barracuda fastback, 340 4spd. It is a restified ride, was a 318 2bbl, AC, automatic on the column small bolt wheels, drum brakes, pea soup green, now electric blue.

I've always asked myself if there was a car out now that we would be talking about years from now, what would it be? The only one that even remotely excites me is the new Challenger. Am I going to kick myself later for not buying one now?

Thanks, the 57 was mostly stock when I got it. Now I have it on a dakota forward frame section with a 512 stroker motor, built 727 and a norrowed 8 3/4 out of a GTX. I built this thing at my farm, so I call it the "farm truck". Everything was done in my shop except for bending the pipes and re-splining the axles. Fun and fast.

Sounds like it would be great fun. We measured the '58 and thought a Dakota frame would work well. We have been side tracked for some time on a '65 Dodge altered wheelbase car (front end only), tube frame, Dana 80, as a somewhat modernized clone of a Ramchargers car from '65. It has turned out to be lots of work, in part due to body work requirements. The 'glass hood, front fenders, doors and trunk lid, are all lots of work to make it look good. We have built it all ourselves other than the 4 link kit. We have a 542 inch blown hemi on methanol for it.
