152 years and 9 months to be exact. His claim to fame is that several documents demonstrate that he truly lived for 152 years. When the church investigated, the register in his native village claimed he was baptized in 1483. Legal records state that he inherited his fathers estate in 1518. A marriage certificate proved he took a wife in 1563, at age 80. Still another marriage certificate attests that he married a second time in 1605 at the age of 122.

Fascinated by Parr's great age, Charles 1 instructed his surgeon to perform a post mortem to discover what finally killed Parr. The surgeons death certificate states that acute indigestion brought on by indulgence in unaccustomed luxuries was the cause of Parrs death. The rich foods and wine of royalty proved too much for farmer Parr.

Why did he live so long?

Because he ate simple organic foods and worked hard outside.

Today's foods, however, abound with preservatives, chemicals, fertilizers, pollution and are invariably depleted of much of the natural minerals and vitamins through cooking or from processing and packaging for our convenience...

In his own words, "Keep your head cool by temperance and your feet warm by exercise. Rise early, go soon to bed, and if you want to grow prosperous keep your eyes open and your mouth shut".

It seems pretty incredible and hard to believe it's true, but the historical information I could find on the web seems to support that indeed he lived to be 152. It is amazing he fathered a child at 120 and another around 130. Who knows how long he'd have lived if he didn't go to the King's palace.

With today's well-documented lives you don't see anything much beyond 115 years. That lady from France who passed away in 1997 or so at age 122 is the oldest documented & accepted age in quite a while. I have a hard time believing 152 when out of the billions alive today 120 years seems to be the far limit. But then back 500 years ago they didn't have the pollution and sedentary lifestyles so many face today.

I found another few websites listing several people living to as old as anything between 130 to over 200 during the last 2000 years. I'm very skeptical: http://custance.org/old/seed/ch3s.html (scroll down about 3/4 of the page)

I've heard the story before. I think it's possible for someone to live right and live for 150 years. And yes, if after eating yogurt all your life and then hog out on rich meat and sweets, I suppose it would kill you.

Lifespans took a big dive after the flood. If you make a historical timechart of the antedeluvians & postdeluvians' lifespans you'll see how dramatic it is. What is interesting is Shem lived long enough to attend the funerals of his children, grand children and great-grand children.
