Matt, obviously you have never looked under my dash  there are more wire ties split loom and electrical tape I could use them as a emergency tow rope, I feel sorry for the poor ******* that tries to figure it all out, heck I have to scratch my head when under there and I installed everything lol I would not do what everyone else is doing I will do something custom as it is no longer the normal thing to look for... .

Good idea, I am still thinking.

To hot wire one of these I would think thieves would need to power up the ECM for engine operation and then jump the starter solenoid terminals to crank it over. The starter cut out IMO is silly and won't stop most. My thoughts are to let them have at the starter and ECM but to disable a circuit even though the ECM is powered up. Wired in so the vehicles key fob would disable the circuit when the doors are locked, such as cam or crank signal, maybe fuel control or something and it would have to be hidden!

With my old gassers I would take the button out of the distributor if I was leaving it in a really bad place. Any easy things like this on the ctd.....

I have read several good threads on protecting these trucks from theft. Some talked about installing a disable switch in the cab, but I do not remember what circuit they were tapping into. Another popular option was to go under the hood and remove a relay for the fuel pump or other critical system that would disable the vehicle. What is the chance of a crook having a relay with them?

I am interested in installing some type of protection above the factory systems, so I will keep an eye on further posts as well.

Unless you are going to pull ALL the relays then all they have to do is move one from another spot to get it going.

with the sentry key, you have to have BOTH original keys or one original key AND a DRB to program a new key. I don't think many thieves have a DRB or access to both original keys at the same time. OTOH My turbo temp monitor bypasses the Sentry key in mine to keep the truck running but I don't thinkit will let the truck start w/o the key. but they could take it as long as they keep the EGT's up to keep the TTM active.

You can program extra keys yourself without a programmer. It is discussed in the owner's manual. I bought a spare key from the dealer and programmed it myself using the two original keys. Takes about 3 minutes.

How about a fuel shutoff solenoid in the supply line coming from the tank? Your lift pump won't like you but you'll have your truck. Hide the switch under the drivers seat or ???. They might get it out of its parking spot, but not much further.

I can't think where I saw it but a company sold a fuel shut-off valve made for that purpose. It was drilled through the floor pan and you plumbed the fuel line to it. It had a wing type valve handle and to use it you would lift the floor mat, turn the valve off and fold down the wing tab down. Enough fuel for about a minute before the truck ran out of fuel.

More available would be a starter-kill security system.
