I need to keep the smoke off of my 38' enclosed car car trailer. I was just wondering if stacks cause a little more noise inside the cab?

Thanks,

Sean

i just put mine on friday and dont think its any louder than the 3" straight pipe i first had, thats my opinion though. you could put straight through muffler on to, that tones it down a lot and still flows great.

I just got a set on this past weekend also and would have to slightly agree. It's about the same noise level at cruise, but it you're gonna be running under a load very often then it could get very loud. At low rpms it shakes my rear glass and echoes inside fairly loud. I love 'em, but if you tow alot then I would be a little more wary. Just my . 001

Just wear earplugs :D I often put one in my left ear since I like having the window down, but not the wind in my ear.

I've got straight cut 5''ers, no muffler, even with the top of the cab. Unloaded they're alot louder then the 4" straight I had. I pulled my 5th wheel up the I-17 from Phoenix to Winslow about a month ago. I had to run with the windows open(20 degrees). When the windows were closed, it felt like my head was going to blow up. Like said above, if towing alot, run a muffler.

For a while I just had the downpipe, ending right by the transmission. It sounds good, I didn't think it was too loud in the cab.

i ran into a problem when i was putting my stacks on, so for a night i had about a 5 foot piece of pipe and my flex pipe exiting in front of the right rear tire, now granted it was kind of aimed towards the ground, but at about 2300 rpm it was deafening in the cab to the point that i would back out of it, and its takes a lot before i back off.

i dont tow hardly at all so im not running a muffler, but i will agree with the guys that have stacks and tow it would be loud

WHAT????? WHAT DID YOU SAY?????/ :-laf :-laf :-laf

I'm just kidding, its not bad at all, just make sure the top of your stacks are above the roof of the truck.

My experience has been that the bigger you go on pipe size and larger turbos, or twins in my case, the quieter the exhaust will be. When I had the stock turbo and 3" pipe into the stacks it was fairly loud all the time, more of a sharp gasser like exhaust tone. When I had the twins put on and went with 5" all the way back it was a night and day difference in the exhaust tone. Now I have a very mellow tone that is not at all loud inside the cab.

I am running the mbrp muffler and the internals inside the stacks. Mine sit about 5 inches above the cab and it is actually very nice. I have turnouts pointed strait back and crusing it sounds good. It is actually more mellow than my dual mbrp setup when crusing. I pull every day for business about 6k and if you're on a step hill it bellers a bit but overall I'm very pleased. I get a lot of s%@# for running the mufflers, but also have a 19 month old that rides in the back from time to time so I had to be careful. I've ridin in the back as well and its not bad at all. The second gens just plain sound good with stacks, but I could see if you had a reg. cab it would get too noisy. I could try to get you a sound bite if you'd like. :)

THe increase in pipe size is not what made your truck quieter, it was the twins. Turbos are a "muffler" of sorts and you are running 2 of them. I am running 4" for about a foot and then it is straight-piped 5" from there back thru 5" turnouts that are about 6" above the cab and it is really loud while towing. It was quieter with the stock turbo and same exhaust. The larger pipe just makes it deeper.

Thanks for the feed back I might put a 4" bullet muffler on to shut it up a bit.

Thanks again,

Sean

DON'T!!!!! it'll eat up ALL of the turbo whistle, and it'll resonate WORSE than without! been there, done that!

It was that loud because it was pointed at the ground.

Well, I know these are a sore point for some but I would think an Aeroturbine mounted correctly and then 5" the rest of the way for stacks would be pretty tame and should sound real nice. Just a thought if you want to run some kind of muffler.
