putting on a set of moto metal 951's 18x9 and dick cepek radial FC11's 33x13. 5x18's. what do i have to tell the dealer to do to change the speedo for the bigger tires. need as much specific info as possible! when i ask my dealer to do somthing out of the ordinary they usally look at me like i'm on fire! TIA... . james :D

i don't recall exactly but I believe the change is made in the pinion factor. some searches will get you the exact instructions to hand to your dealer. The most important thing you can do is get the revolutions per mile for your tire otherwise the dealer just makes a guess.

I took mine in to the dealer to have it re-flashed and I guess I was lucky. There was a school zone next to the dealer with radar sign, they set it to that and is is right on according to my GPS.

Yep,

you need to know the tire's revolutions per mile. Then tell your dealer to to change to pinion factor, a setting they will access with the DRB III in the CAB (controller Antilock Brake). It is easy to do, if they know the pinion factor change is made in the CAB.

The Superchips box will also do this. I am very happy with mine for the money

Does Superchips make a programmer that is worth buying for an '05? I'd like to have the ability to program changes to the tire size without going to the dealer each time, but is there any performance gain?

I just was looking to do this today!!!

Stupid dealers! They want $105 - $50 (depending on dealer, and their excuse for cost pricing verus others). My god, that's in sane. the $50 is more resonable. but the majority of the dealers want $80+. for 3 minutes worth of work!!!!!!

One even gave some excuse about unions.

Anyother diag tools out there that can fix these speedo's?

I went to the dealer with the exact number (can't remember it) for my 35"s. They said they tried but couldn't do it. I ended buying a used Superlift calibration thing. Works great and was easy to setup/hookup.

I think I might end up doing the same thing, since my local dealer wants $65 to do it and I'll go to different size tires in the future.

My dealer charged me $40... I think that is reasonable. . If you go to the tire manufacture website you can find out the specs on the tires and they usually show the RPM... Most dealers also have a list they can look at for the different tires size...

I will agree with Bob, 636 RPM should do the trick. I have DC Fun Country II's 33x12. 50R17 and use 636.

I called the manufacture for the RPM and they gave me 618 which I tried and it was off. I ended up at 636 using my GPS to verify. Also I noted they are same height as my 285 Toyo's I took off and they were set to 636. Anyone with a Snap-On scanner and latest software can make the change.

The Dodge dealer I bought my 2004. 5 from charged me $16 to recalibrate for my 285-70-17 BFGs. They fit it in while I had it there anyway for a routine oil change.

By the way, I've been using http://www.tirerack.com for tire info & specs, and among the specs they list revs/mile for each type and size of tire.

I have the 315s and I just keep in mind that it reads low by 10%. This has the added benefit of keeping the odometer 10% lower.
