I have been considering switching to 3. 55s for some time I am wondering if I might be ok just swapping to 35 inch tires. With my mods it gets to 100 very fast but I think I need more it just red lines to fast. ... what do you run for rpms on the hiway thanks George

If I were in your situation I would probably just run larger tires, assuming you want to go to larger tires.

If you are looking for more RPM, couldn't you run a RAD?

Also, since you are used to how your truck responds now, I don't think you will like the bottom end with 3. 55's, a tight converter, and a SPS62. It is be coniderably more laggy where as not you probably do not have much lag.

I dont think I could get rid of my 4. 10's. Considering how fun it is to drive around town with 33x12. 5's and a sps 62. Very minimal lag if any. Never had the 3. 55's and I don't think I would want to after being used to what I have now. Just my opinion.

Concure will CollinsR about RPMS. But at 80 My RPMS were a touch above 2400. Did notice a big difference in RPMS when switching to 285 from 265.

My buddy has 355s and 285 complains about low end all the time I thought it was just because he only has a ez box. He has 285s on his truck I will swap with him I would like to try 315s also I will look for a set to try... thanks George

Can you please explain the comment it sucked towing a trailer? Did you have to down shift more often when pulling the hills? Was is it a dog and not able to make the hills in a reasonable time? I just want to get a feel for the 3:55's. I am looking to change from the 3:73 but I can't go with tire option you were discussing.

I have 3. 54's on my 94,(with 35" tires)it has a ton of torque so it will do what I ask but on the big grades I have to do about 75 mph to keep the egts in check while towing. The 05 has a bit less torque. 4. 10's with 35's and is easier to keep closer to the speed limit when doing the grades.

I'm running 3. 55's and 35" tires. 60 mph is around 1500 rpm and 80 mph is somewhere around 2000 rpm. I don't tow hardly at all. I guess it depends on what you use your truck for and how far you have bombed it. If you tow alot, numerically higher gears and/or smaller tires will keep each gear closer together (not so much rpm drop between gears). The more hp you have, the less of a issue the lower gear ratio becomes (as long as you aren't always lugging the engine and you can stay on top of the turbo easily).

Man, who wouldn't want 4. 10's with oversized tires!!! I have 4. 10's with slightly oversized tires 285's and the combo is perfect!!!

I have had both 3. 55's and 4. 10's and both trucks were autos. I prefer 3. 55's and FWIW I am running 285 tires on my 3. 55 geared truck.

I will be trying my buddys 285s as soon as I get the truck back from Mass Diesel I will probably keep them until I return from FL in March I promise not to spin them :D ... George

I've got 4. 10 rear in my 99, I was running 285/75/16's on the stock chrome plated steel rims, and finally swapped them for Mickey Thompson 16x8 Classic II's which are the perfect rim for a 285, the stockers were only 16x6 1/2" I couldn't be more happy with how much nicer the truck handles and the smoother ride
