How do you remove the black filler pieces that fit where the fog lights would be? I don't want to pull too hard and risk breaking one.

rbatelle:

When I installed my foglights I found they were flexible enough that I used a really small flat screwdriver to pry them out a bit and then used my fingers to pull them out the rest of the way. I was working outside in the hot sun so that may have helped too. In the end I just tossed the filler pieces anyway, even though they were still good.

I really thought that I would have to worry more about breaking the cheesy bumper rather than the filler pieces when doing this though!

They definitely came out by pulling forward as I didn't remove the bumper. When you get the small screwdriver in there you'll see some little lugs on the piece that locks it to the bumper. The bumper is kind of flexible too (not very encouraging from a safety point of view!). The pieces are fairly flexible that you can almost "twist" then out while pulling forward once you get some of the locking lugs disengaged - kind of like taking the plastic lid off a large coffee can. Are you installing different non-Mopar foglights? - the Mopar ones come with new inserts.

I dug out my foglight instructions from my files and the pictures definitely show what I'm trying to explain. If you want I can figure out how to scan them and then email to you or fax - whatever works for you? Let me know!

Well, I've looked at them a bit closer and I see the clips that hold them to the bumper. I can get them out without your going to the trouble of scanning the drawings.

I'm taking some measurements in the hopes that a set of 6 inch stainless KC Daylighters might fit in the holes with some creative bracketry to hold them in place!

Follwing your conversation and I'm wondering if the Mopar Fog light mounts would fit the KC lights or some other high power stuff thats out there? Any one have the goods on this?:)

I have not seen the Mopar mounts... perhaps someone who has could comment on whether they might be used to mount lights other than the factory ones?

I put PIAA's in mine. It was tough to fab brackets to get the lights centered and aimed properly, but they are awesome!!!

Pictures available.

fog light install

Purchased the "kit" from mopar, included new head light switch to activate, wiring "pig tails", and the inserts for the lights. not a bad price. removed lovered inserts from behind with a kinda of turn and push motion, came right out. factory fog lamps mounted right to the brackets and have all kinds of adjustment, (up/down, right left). put the new inserts in, driver side from behind, puleed it in and twisted until caught on the tab, passenger side got ahead of myself and installed fog lamp before insert and had to install insert from the front, a little harder took a couple of trys but do-able.

brighter lights could be had by changing bulbs, (did that on my old 99 3500). factory fog lamps "just the right size for the opening" so if purchasing an oem, need to check on size, (bigger lenses are a waste because of where they are mounted. also really liked the idea of not doing any wiring, except plugging in the pig tails to the factory installed wires that are on all the trucks weather or not fog lamps are ordered. also not drilling and mounting switch on new dash board, just pull on head light switch!

only down side reall large wattage lamps could melt factory wires!:--)

Just looked over the bracketry for the factory lights... I don't believe there's any way to use the brackets to install anything other than the factory foglamps. And certainly not Daylighters. A custom bracket will need to be fabricated. I need to do more research before I actually buy the lights.

Would like to have a pair of the louvered inserts. If anyone wants to give em up, I'll pay postage for em. PM me.
