Thought I had the dreaded steering gear failure . The truck developed a wicked wander & wheel slop & the steering wheel was way off center. I really did not want to take to the dealer so i thought i,d have it checked out at my alignment shop. Turns out the steering gear bolts had come loose to the point where the gear could of dropped off:mad: :That could have made for an exciting situation.

The guy tightened the bolts back up & I was down the road with the truck driving like new again,What a relief!

If you guys have a problem with the steering you might want to check that gear out. Just have someone else turn the wheel whilst you look at the gear at the bottom of the steering linkage. It,s tough to do it by your self, thats why I never figured it out .

any of you guys remember the problem Dodge had with there vans on the 70's? The stearing box would actualy rip out of the frame! I remember driving a friend's van home one night. We started out along this back road and I noticed the van pulled real hard to the left. No problem, this van was a junker but what the hell, then the road went left so I turned the wheel and nothing happened! He had more then 1/2 turn free play in the steering!

Hope were not going to have this problem all over again!

Tom,

Iam indeed talking about the bolts that hold the steering box to the frame. There were only a few threads holding it on there!!Yikes:eek:
