Next Month I am ordering a new 2WD 3500 Ram, I am about 1000 miles from Dave Smith Motors. Are the savings worth the drive ?, do they have more pull on getting the order faster than other Dealers do ?, is there anyone in particular anyone would care to recommend to deal with ?, I have been to there web site, they have a huge inventory, but I don't want a 4x4 again, and most Dealers don't stock 2WD trucks, plus I really want the new max tow 800.

I have no experience with their sales dept so I can't comment. After having mechanical problems on I-90, and able to limp into their service dept, I have nothing but Praise for them.

It depends on how worth your time is to you. I called when I was looking but my local dealer gave me a comparable price after factoring in travel and my missing some billable work time. My local fleet/web salesman new I'd run to ID so it helped in that regard. Its one really long day for me to go there and back. Or its a one night overnight there trip.

If your writing a check or have financing aranged, and know what you want a five minute phone call will answer all your questions. A few of my friends have made the trek and have been very happy with Dave Smith Motors.

Dsm

Jack Powel Dodge's salesgal in Escondido, Ca recommended that I purchase from DSM.

The professionalism, product knowledge, and courtesy was amazing.

I just wish they'd open a store in San Diego.

They don't have any influence on the build/transportation factor to my knowledge.

I've heard the name "ED" mentioned here as a good salesman. My guy retired.

I have nothing negative to say about DSM but there was no better price up there then there was here in the San Francisco bay Area. I got the same price from my local dealer that I could have got from DSM. Though my was an order, not purchased off the lot.

Mine was $1300 under invoice minus rebates. Lowest price here in San Diego on a special order was $500 over invoice. Not a manual transmission in San Diego Co. either.

My friend bought an '07 worktruck special. 2500 regcab,4wd,ST,cruise,AC,mirrors,G-56,tow,chrome grill, single CD for just under 28K.

If a local store can compete,by all means do.

recent purchase.

I got jacked around by dealers in California, they all wamted more $$ and I dont like haggling with salesmen. I bought my truck from DSM and am very happy. Swany is the guy I dealt with... square shooter to me. Overall I am very happy with the experience from DSM.

All 3 of my buddies that have 4th gen trucks got them at DSM, Boise, Spokane area (no brainer) and Seattle area. . The prices couldn't be beat. My dad got his 06 there for an amazing price in fall of 05, and I got my 05 there used in Nov of 07. Their used deals are nothing to write home about, but it was the truck I wanted and I was in N Idaho for turkey day.

I believe in Dave Smith, however my local dealer (Melloy Dodge) matched their price for my 05 Dodge, which was ordered and delivered on Nov 04.

I had a very positive experience with DSM and would purchase from them again. Huge savings over the local dealer who called me a liar when I showed them the quote.

My little sister in Wisconsin bought her 09 Dodge Cummins from Dave Smith. She was very pleased with the deal. I cant remember the name of the sales woman she delt with. I met her when I looked at the truck. She is a world ranked weight lifter. If I come up with her name I will post it later. I would HIGHLY reccomend her to anyone looking for a sales person that knows what they are talking about. .

DSM had no problem giving me a price on my 06' in late 05' over the phone. Use this price to leverage a local dealer. Otherwise go with DSM. My 06' Mega was $13k cheaper at DSM vs local.

Two people I know have bought trucks out of state I thinkthey used DSM both had gotten really good deals on their trucks, enoug to cover the cost of having the truck shipped to their house. .....

i liked the price / i appreciated the service

call ed west @ dave smith. he helped me get the EXACT truck i wanted. the guys on long island couldn't get their act together and get me a price on the truck i wanted built. i called dave smith and they got it done. i saved a lot of money and went out from ny to ID with my family. took 2 weeks off to see the country. best money i ever spent / saved.

was 2k to have it shipped to NYC & still would have been about 5-6k cheaper than the best local price i could get.

I get regular check in calls from ed and he has helped noodle out a couple of issues the servicing dealer needed help with.

For those of you that have never been or will never go to Kellogg Idaho you are missing something grand. Dave Smith is Kellogg. There are lots all over this little town with new trucks and cars. I usuallly stop in at least once a year when we drive through the areall I walked one ONE lot with just quad cab short box Cummins Auto trucks. There had to be 100 trucks there all arranged by color. Across the street there was a lot with JUST Quad cab long box Cummins diesels, sorted by color had to be 50-75 of them. This is just the Dodge lineup. You will be stunned to disbelief. Quite a operation.

I got prices from DSM in 1997,2000,2003 & 2006. I was able to meet or beat their prices on every occasion . I was not impressed by the sales people I talked with, so last fall I just struck a deal with carson dodge, with out even trying to get someone from DSM to call back.

That being said DSM sells a pile of trucks so they must do it right most of the time. The big secret is out, a lot of dealers are very competitive with DSM. I like keeping my $$ local but thats just me. JMHO

Carson was my second pick after being referred to DSM by my local dealer.

They wouldn't even match my local dealer's offer of $500 over on a special order.

I understand they have a good service dept.

I don't see how any dealer could match a no holdback deal from DSM. This was 4 1/2 yrs ago though.

The only bad vibes I got from anyone there was the finance guy. He wanted so badly to sell me a Chrysler service agreement. No dice.

I purchased a truck from DSM back in 98. David Smith was great and did exactly what they promised. I did save some money and made a vacation of the trip home to Vegas. The problem I had was that I developed a pulling problem with the truck. Long story short, I ended up going to arbitration and won. The dealership that I had been working with locally didn't want to order me a new truck because they weren't going to make any money off the deal. I fought and fought with them. I finally got the new truck and loved it (its still in my old reader rigs photo's). To do it all again, i would buy locally and spend the extra money to get the customer service you may need later.

DSM is a car dealer. They have no special pull, but by volume the do get the nod when it comes to having trucks delivered ,as in a new model year. They pretty much sell what they order, which is the variety of equipped rigs. The great majority are 4WD, a 1000 miles in any direction from there it's pretty hard to justify 2WD. Unless that new Max Tow is only 2wd you wont see many 2WD trucks there. DSM is nothing special, as stated before the secret is out on how they sell, most people have a positive experience in part because they already committed in their mind or heart to buy. DSM requires, for the most part a $500 deposit to "hold" your truck and promise it is fully refundable, it is, but not w/o grief, which is one reason that makes them just another dealership. They require $50 doc fees, and claim it's just the way it is. . They tint your windows, and say that it's for you, no negotiation there. It's not that this makes them terrible just not special. Just a car dealer, so do your due dilligence.

Agreed. The dealer has to make money some how. If they are giving up the hold back and selling for cost on every truck they wouldn't be in business long. I'm all about a dealer making a profit but not just on me. LOL. .

Sometimes its not about the "best" deal but the "fairest". I tried to trade for a 2010 in May but everyone wanted to much to boot. I traded for $5000 less than ,the may qoute, in Oct. for a 2011. Go figure. I'm sure someone got a better deal than me but I know I got a fair deal in the end.
