I am ready to install the thermocouple in my exhaust manifold. Saw somewhere that I should coat the threads of the sensor with high temp. sealant (1600F or higher). Been to 3 auto stores, searched the WWW, can't find this product. Any help?
I assume the attachment to the manifold is via pipe (tapered) threads. Tapered threads are pretty much self-sealing. The Permatex product I cited will provide some lubrication as the pipe threads are tightened. The main reason to use the Permatex Copper Anti-Seize Lubricant is that it will facilitate dis-assembly if needed. It's good to 1800º F.
If you read a can of Never Seize... it says for hydraulic leak sealing on threads. Illflem used it to seal fuel fittings etc. High temp stuff obviously would work best.
I use the Permatex Coper anti-seize and really like it. Have not had a problem with anything like manifold to turbo studs / bolts, thermocouple in pre turbo manifold, thermocouple in post turbo downpipe.
