Three gauge installation in Dash Pod

Am installaing three gauges in the "Gauge Works" dash pod in my 98. 5 model Slt 2500. Where is the best place to come through the firewall and up to the top of the center of the dash with all the cables , where the dash pod will be mounted.

And how do you go about it? Have isspro EGT,

Boost and westech fuel pressure to install.

Would appreciate your advice.

First the hole in the firewall is located on the drivers side just below and off to the side of there the brake master cylinder is. There is a large round black rubber grommet there. Go thru here.



Next there are two choices I found. One is to drill holes in the dash and come up from underneath. The other is to route the wires across the bottom of the windshield where it meets the dash. For those that have routed across the bottom I have always seem some kind of dash pad being used to "hide" the wires. There are probably lots that have them there w/o a pad, just that I have not seem them.



I personally choose to drill holes in the dash. If I ever get rid of the truck, I'll let the gauges go with it and the new owner will not have to worry about holes in the dash.



I found that by removing the stereo, it was very easy to pull the wires up from underneath and feed them up thru into the gauge pod, route them nice and neat, tiewrap, etc.

I ran all my wires through the firewall using the same hole as the factory wiring harness. Just slide a stiff wire through it (I used a coat hanger) and us it to pull your other wires through. Mine are all electrical guages (except boost) & had no problem getting them all to fit through. You can remove the grommet from the firewall by squeezing it in a couple of places (look at it carefully from the inside of the truck just behind the wire juction where the brake controller hooks up).

I popped the dash bezzel off and removed the heater control block (only a coupe of screws) so I could run the wires to the dash pod.

I made a hole in the dash with large punch. Just heated it up nice and hot with a propane torch and melted a hole where I wanted. I suppose you could also use a soldering iron - either way, much easier than drilling if you don't have a 90 degree drill.
