Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Three hours and some elbow grease.... polished turbo housing!

Just for those that are interested in doing the same...



I started with a makita grinder to get the rough stuff off, then used a sandpaper wheel on the makita to smooth it out. Next I used my standard abraisives kit from summit Deluxe Porting Kit to smooth it even more. Lastly I used a Mothers Powerball to shine it up.



What do you think?

I think it looks great! Probably better in person Im sure. Are you going to clearcoat it so it dosent get corroded?

I imagine if you clear coat it it will yellow on you.

Use a product called ZOOPS. It seals polished aluminum from the elements real well... ... .

I believe you can get a Zoops kit from Summit.

Is that an S-400 case? I just got done doing the same thing to one.

Looks good!!! If you wan't to go the final step, get some tripoli and red rouge from a jewelers supply house (ask someone there, I think they are safe for aluminum, if not they will know what compounds to use), you can get an almost mirror finish! Northern Tools also sells metal polishing compounds.



I don't think I will do the same for my stock HX35 with almost 183,000 and a good coat of oil on the inside!

Or wash the truck, but it feels good for some reason to have some one else do it especially right after they just washed their own car.



BTW thanks. If I ever upgrade my turbo, I will likely do the compressor polish as well. It looks very good.
