Has anyone ever had trouble with there throtle position sensor? My check engine light came on, and to the dealer (I went still under warantee). Dealer says it's the throtle position sensor. Could this be true?

I have not had trouble with mine .

Did the dealer call it a throttle position sensor? The manual calls it a APPS, and so does the parts department.

APPS = accelerator peddle position sensor.

They are easy to change and SHOULD NOT be real expensive.

I think?

that they are around 250. 00? Mine was changed (under warranty) with just a few thousand miles on it. That is what I recall the parts man tell me when they did the install. There's not much to it, just a sensor with a metal bracket. The cable is extra (I think)

APPS/TPS expensive

Gentlemen,

I just replaced my third APPS on my 2001. I have 117,000 miles on it when it went out last week exactly to the day one year after replacing the second one. The first replacement was at 72,000 miles last year and then in one month it went out again (dealer replaced that one under the parts warranty) but at that time the part from the dealer was $330. This time I replaced it myself cost from dealer $425 from Cummins not much better at $370. Dealer had it in stock I would have had to wait to get it ship from the Nashville plant to get it through Cummins, so I just ponied up the extra $50 because I needed my truck. It is extremely easy to replace pull of the throttle cable, remove six bolts, and disconnect the pigtail and it is all done reverse the order to put it back on. The part number for the 99 is different than the 2001. Cummins part number for a 99 is 4002066. the 2001 part number I found out has changed but I didn't write it down when the Cummins tech told me. Old number to cross reference is 3937162. Hope this helps.
