Success!

I got the kit from Bob4x4 and the same day Dodge called me and let me know my dealer had my new one in. I picked that one up the same day. So now I have a working truck and a cable for someone that is in need. Bob, If you would like the new one from Dodge I will give you dibs.

Anyone having the same issue should:

1. Get with your dealer and get the part ordered and designate it VOR (Vehicle Off Road)
2. Open a case with Dodge Customer Support
a) reference that it is a recalled part
b) reference the amount of parts on backorder
3. Wait for them to call you and let you know your part is in.

Yesterday the throttle cable decided it was going to let me know it was frayed. Friday night, dealership closed, and the throttle cable kit is not available in parts outlets. Grrr, another one of those little things that show up after 400K miles. I decided to try an interim fix while a cable assy was ordered. I found 1/16" steel cable at the hardware store and some aluminum crimp pieces for 1/16" cable (the kit had little donuts and some parts to make a loop end, which I didn't use). $7 total. Measured the old cable, cut and pulled it out of the housing, slid new cable in, put crimp-deals where they were on the factory wire (including within the little ball-joint end), and re-installed the whole assy. This fix is fairly strong, so now I'm not going to order a whole assy from Dodge. It looks just like it was before, except now I know there's a brand new wire inside.

I did open up the 1/16" hole for the cable on the plastic ball joint end, with a slightly larger drill bit. It made it possible to sneak the new cable through.

Better than $100 for a whole new kit, and who knows how long of a wait.
