Got my throttle cable recall notce a couple of days ago. Since I had recently checked my cable and found only two strands holding I had already replaced it. Thanks to reading these boards. I was made aware of this problem. Thanks to TDR, it did not fail in the boon docks some place. On contact with the dealer, a really five star place with at least one outstanding diesel mechanic I was informed by him that I should bring the truck in anyway because the kit consisted of a rod with ends, the cable and possibly other parts I querried him about why the throttle linkage at the pump was hard to move initially but moved easily if the engine was running. he said that it was an excellent way to check to see if the fuel solinoid was working properly. Ignition switch off, hard to move off idle stop. Ignition switch on, no noticable restriction off the idle stop. He said that if I had sensative feet, I could check it out by just turning the switck off or on and noticing the difference feel of the foot throttle. LOL BTW ,Does anyone else have trouble proof reading their replies My print is so small I can barely read it with my strongest glasses

I purchased a new updated cable a few months back because mine was fraying. I never put the new one on, Does anyone know if I can return it for a refund?

I went down to the dealer for the recall and my cable was replaced. There was also a recall for a wiring harness also so they replaced it to. The problem I have now is when they replaced the wiring harness they didnt hook everything back up. My pillar guage has no lights, my torque convertor saver doesnt work, my alarm doesnt work, my door locks dont work and they installed the key ignition in crooked. Can you believe my luck.

Hey AZGEARPRO

What dealer did you use? Bill Luke, Larry Miller?? Bell Road Dodge ?

I used to live in Glendale and am just curious, plus I want to let my father-in-law know to avoid that dealer if he needs service on his truck.

Thanks!

Dan

More Than Just The Cable

I just read the #970 recall again. There is more to it than just the cable as has allready been pointed out. If you are one of us who has had the cable replaced you might still want to take it to the dealer and let them do the whole recall.

TOO LATE FOR ME. :( :( :( as I did not read and comprehend. Maybe my bust will help someone who has not yet sent their receipts in for reimbursement. I am going to contact my local 5***** guy tomorrow and see what they have to say. More to follow.

Thank You DC!

197K worth on factory original parts less a replaced throttle cable. Lube ball and socket joints many times but still was very worn. Throttle cable was still in pretty good shape.

Recall replaces cable, Both ball and socket ends. Ball and socket have no more wire keepers or need greasing. Nyon/teflon bushing. Just pops on.

Get the recall done, it is more the just cable! My Truck was a late 1996 5sp.

Forty minutes out the door with all new parts. Thanks for this one DC! Mine were ready to fall off!

Follow Up

Called my local 5***** guy today and they said "bring it on in, we need to do the whole recall". So far they get an "A" on this one. IMHO everyone that got this recall should take their truck in unless they are just opposed to letting any dealer work on it. We have been bi%$#ing about this for some time so lets give them the chance to fix it.

If you want to know if a recall is for your vehicle, you can do a couple of things: call D/C customer service at 1-800-992-1997, give them the last 8 digits of your VIN and they will tell you, OR go to alldata.com, OR go to the NHTSA website

I had mine done today and there is a definite difference in cable assemblies: the new one has a thick rubber grommet where the cable conduit runs through the bracket just prior to the throttle lever.

Had the recall done today. Showed up at 7:15 for my 7:30 "appointment". They started work at 8:00 and finished at 9:30. The cable you can see inside the truck looks about the same size as the old one. Hope it lasts longer!

Cable Recall Work

Had mine done yesterday. Was told it would take 2 hours. I said, "ok. " Killed 2 hours, looked like truck hadn't even been worked on when i returned. They said it takes a long time. To make a long story short, it took 4 hours and cost me $35. 00. They said they had to charge me half an hour to get after-market (Primloc) stuff out of their way. That might have been fine if I'd been told before hand. Before you have your done, better ask about any "hidden" charges.

The excuse for taking too much time was they were just getting used to doing that kind of work on the RAMS coming in! Poppy Cock! I knew for a fact they had done some before the recall.

Will write the dealer a letter. May not do any good, but perhaps it may be a help to someone else.

Checking

I have been checking my throttle cable every service and sometimes more often. It shows no signs of breakage or wear. I was thinking to hold on to the recall and go have it done if it shows any signs... .

I replaced my throttle cable last summer. I looked till I was blue in the face for the damn recipt so I could get reimbursed. Can't find it:(

I have part receipts for throttle cable, Speed control cable, and throttle linkage. The kicker is the good folks at the 5* dealer thought I had a sticky pump and spent 2 days to take off the pump and have it bench tested only to figure out that it was a sticky linkage. I have a bill for $190 to lube a sticky linkage. Two days after they lubed it, it bound up and broke the press on ball joint at the pump. I can't wait to get all my money back. ITs a $300 reimbursement!

PS When I got my truck back it wasn't washed, there was a clamp left off an intercooler hose, there was a shop rag left in the engine compartment, the speed control cable was left disconnected and grease footprints were left on the floor mat and carpet. All courtesy of your local 5* dealer.

I would not put up with that from any dealer! My wifes suv came back in simular condiction and we made them clean up everything. If your 5* refuses, get another shop to fix everything and take that #$%^ Dealer to court!!!  (boy that felt good)

HEMI®Dart,

It's not just the cable. New throttle rod ends and new linkage levers. The spring appears to be new too.

Get the recall!

Even if you have a replaced throttle cable, have the recall done. Save the old cable for a spare. You get all new cable, throttle rod ball and stud ends, and a new spring. Warrenty pays for 40 minutes, mine was down in about 25. You might get lucky and talk your dealer into giving you the warrenty kit which includes all the new parts for you to put on yourself.

recalled

I just called my five star dealer and told them that the cable was replaced 6 months ago. The service manager told me that is fine and he will order all new parts anyway and replace the cable again plus the linkage parts since they were not done beforehand.

I then called customer service and I was told that the recall would be done and I would be reimbersed for the cable I had purchased earlier.

I hope that they do what they told me, and the dealer fixes the throttle linkage correctly, so that I can get WOT. If not I will be back here to do the adjustment correctly.

I just had the recall done. I asked if I could get the parts and do it myself - they said since it was a recall for safety a authorized dealer had to do the repairs - yea rah.

Got the truck back and - imagine this - it wasn't finished properly. They forgot to reconnect the intercooler to intake manifold tube.

Why is it EVERY time I have to go to the dealer they can't do things right?

I did look at the parts and all of them were worn and a few strands of the cable were broken.
