Just had my throttle cable fixed under the DC recall for my '96. After looking at the paper work and the work done, I have a question: it says cable & LINKAGE were replaced. I looked under the hood, and I see the cable, but there's still dirt on the linkages I see;ie. the spring assembly on the pump etc. Am I missing something, or did Dodge do the quick and dirty?

The most obvious change in the linkage is the ends of the rod between the linkage and the pump lever. This whole business was bright and clean when they got done with mine. That included a new spring between the pump lever and the block. If all this isn't clean, then your dealer's mechanics are dirty and sloppy or they didn't do the whole thing. Maybe both.

It should have a new cable and bellcrank. If the old bellcrank is used it will work for a while but it is slightly different and if I remember right, the cable end can pop off of it when you least expect it. I changed my own cable and bellcrank that the dealer provided some time ago but I didn't save the old bellcrank so I can't tell you the exact difference.

What I can see that was changed is this: the rod (bellcrank?) going from the front of the pump to the throttle lever. The cable was changed and maybe the throttle pump lever back by the idle adjust area, but they definetly did not change the large spring up front or any other of the associated parts. Should they have?

Thanks again for all the help, it's great to have somewhere to get info without all the dealer fantasies.

Randy, consider yourself lucky, as the recall according to the notice I received from Daimler-Chrysler, only involves the 1994 thru 1996 model years. If this truck of mine ('96) receives one more recall, TSB fix, I think I'm going to scream. I never dreamt this one would have so many issues, and it all comes down to poor engineering or the desire to save money in manufacturing.

I have an early 97, picked it up in Nov. 96. It had 135k on it now, and the throttle cable is in fine condition. I went to the dealer, he ran the ser. # in the computer, and said my truck was not included in the recall. In fact, I've never had any recalls on it, except for a slight change in the wiring diagram for the tow package wiring.

Cable

I had my cable replaced last year, at my own expense:mad: The cable was just replaced under the recall notice. The Service manager told me it doesn't matter if it was replaced, they will do so again. I called DC's customer service and was direted to send in the invoice and a letter asking for a refund. Hopefully I will get the refund !

I did the same thing. Got the refund check back in a matter of days. Did not know the U. S. Mail went that fast
