They didn't name brands, just said it was big powerful PU, but sure sounded like the infamous 12 valve problem. This lady's throttle stuck wide open in NYC traffic, 80+ mph. Cop got in front of her and applied his parking brake, while the truck was skidding his car down the street the officer jumped out and turned off the truck's key and put it in park. Just goes to show you shouldn't ignore the cable recall.

i can't comprehend why she didn't just throw it into neutral or turn the key off. key off will kill the motor, neutral will just bring the engine up to the governor and do nothing else...

are people scared of a diesel engine's governor? i have been scared by a diesel only once real good. that was on a 6v71 detroit that was on a bench in my schools engine lab. the buffer screw was turned in a bit too much and when that thing fired up... . oh I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER... sounded like 3000+ rpm. . you could feel it in you stomach when it fired up. .

on edit:

i am assuming that the lady was driving a diesel.

I recall a story a few years back about a lady in a VW that had the throttle stick. Burned up the brakes and called 911. Said she couldn't turn the key off or shift out of gear:rolleyes: Cops said it all worked fine (except the throttle) after she rolled it.

it was a 1994 chevy blazer.

those only had fours and sixes in gas version only.

I heard the tape on the radio. it sounds like the 911 dispatcher needs some training and Officer Ed Hernandez(SP) should be commended for not slapping the crap out of her after he got her stopped.

I cant believe they didnt tell her to turn it off or at least put it in neutral. geeez.

I had a life or death situation about two years ago. SKYDIVING, i had what is called a "bowtie" or a "lineover" basically the steering line goes over the canopy in the middle and snuffs it out to make it look like a bowtie. i was orbiting on my back (facing up) around the canopy.

i was of the mind to cut away, roll back over belly to earth and pull the reserve. if i had just cut and pulled the reserve, it could have come up between my legs or under one of my arms and not opened.

go ahead throttle "make my day"

before the throttle cable recall was released, i procrastinated gettign it fixed and almost caused myself an accident on two of the numerous occassions. however, my problem was not it sticking but falling off. i was driving down a single lane road in Claremore Ok, and it came off, i couldnt pull over due to the extremely steep incline of the shoulder, i just had to put it in 1rst and let it idle. i thought it would be cool and i would just **** people off driving so slow, but i got cought at an unavoidable stoplight and when i tried to turn to get off the road and rig it back on a car pulled out and almost drilled me, im talking within two feet of hitting the driverside door. very scary. this is why people shoudnt procastinate!!:D
