Throttle Cable

Recently while pulling my 5th wheel trailer down a 7% grade I lost my exhaust brake. After pulling into a flying J at the bottom of the hill I found that the throttle cable was fraying and just about ready to break.

I had to be towed to a dodge dealer and had it and associated linkasge replaced at a cost of $125

They told me it was not covered under the Daimler Chrysler Recall.

Does anyone know if my 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 5. 9 is covered under that recall?

NOPOWERFORME There is a recall on 94-96 dodge trucks with cummins engine. For trottle cables that could unravel (fray) or break. NHTSA Recall No. 01V037/DaimlerChrysler Recall No. 970. This information is in the July issue of Trailer Life Page 81.

Yeah, I went through the throttle cable thing too. When I told the dealer that there is a recall he went to his computer and said there is nothing showing a recall, I called NHTSA and they said that DC will take some time to get owners notified then and only then will the dealers cover it... . bottom line, save your receipt.

Blame DC

Appearantly everyone knows about this recall except the dealers. Diamler is leaving the dealerships completly in the dark on this stuff. I talked to two different dealerships we deal with at the store and none of them have been informed anything about his recall. They were also telling me some horror stories of their own in dealing with Diamler. Since the layoffs (about 20,000) they were telling me, when they call in for tech assistance, sometimes they're on hold for over 30 minutes. It's ridiculous. Oh well, so is life after Diamler.

I got the same response from my dealer. I replaced my frayed cable 4 months ago and kept it in case there was a recall. When I called the dealer he said he did not know anything about it, so I am waiting to see how long it takes for a notification. Has anyone gotten one yet.
