Throttle linkage part #

I was on my way home tonight in my '97 when all the sudden the throttle went to the floor. Ofcourse I just started up a hill when it happened. The linkage that goes between the front of the pump to the back of the pump broke. It's not the throttle cable, it is the threaded metal rod that goes from the front of the pump to the back. Does anyone know if it is available from Cummins? I called Cummins NW and got a part number of #3931568 but he said that they have never stocked it and can not get it. I thought I remembered someone else having this problem and getting it fixed by Cummins? Anyway, If anyone can get me the Dodge part number for the threaded part that is between one of the ball ends and the control rod I would appreciate it. Thanks Bob V.

I can't find the ticket right now to give you a part number, but they had them in stock. It was on the order of $30-40, and my dodge dealer won't cut me a deal on ANYTHING!

broke threaded rod

Got mine yesterday, 26$ in Daytona. Trying to put it on and looking for the procedure, do not have a manual. Any help in this direction would be appreciated. This site is amazing I just posted my plea and then came across this thread. My first course of action was to get a post in before actual dissassembly and investigation . Without looking I even thought that rod was a kickdown. I went to get just the rod and it comes with new ball ends, I am wondering if I should change these out?

My rod kit was( 5011955-AA ROD THROT 14043005)$26. 56

Mine is a 97 3500. Hoping this is the right one.

Adjust the rod linkage until you get exactly 5. 0" from the center of the ball (where cable clamps on) to the flat part of the bracket (where the throttle cable attaches to the bracket.



I hope this makes sense.



Make sure to check for full throttle movement and 'breakover' after the new linkage is added.

common problem on the eng, in your break down kit it is a good idiea to carry a lenght of rubber hose (small I. D. ) and 4 hose clamps (small) seems the auto-matic's tend to break the threaded rod into. for the std tran's owner's the ball will jump off--- in most cases the rear first--eng goes to dead idle-----these ends are replaceable without buying the whole assy, "IF" the front ball jumps off at pump end HANG_____ON,,!!!!!! wide open/full throttle!!!!!!!!!!!!!... What a ride on an exit ramp!!

For a LOT of added safty,take a small "BLACK" tie wrap and install it over the rod /swivel end 's (both) and they will never fall off. . Now it also has to go over the attaching lever with enough tension to stay in place But loose enough to allow the assy to pivoit freely. May take a couble try,s .

the lenght of hose can be slit slide over the broken in two rod assy --two clambs front section-two rear section will get you down the road with out calling the low cost tow truck and a day or week on the factory order... most dealers dont stock . . !!

i'm talking of the "small clamps"apros 3/16 th wide and screw them down tight.

Thanks for the info. I had already changed it out to the length it was . The back ball plate had five different holes to mount in and it seemed the other rod was in the middle one so I put it there. The travel seems stiffer but I relate that to the 2 new ball mount ends. I will find out tommorro how close I came to the five inches.
