The linkage under the hood from the accelerator pedal is basically a solid rod with a dogleg in the middle. Each end has a socket that snaps over a ball stud. Coming home this evening, the front of the rod fell off of the ball stud- the only way I could keep it connected was to put a ty-rap around it. Is the socket end a separately-available part or does one need to replace the entire rod? Does anyone just happen to have a part number for either just the end or the complete assembly? Thanks in advance.

Sign up for Cummins Quickserve. You will need the ESN. Nearly every part of the engine is there. The rod ends and balls are in a Mopar kit part number CANZ9700, along with a new cable. If you can find one you can save some money.

Quickserve is a good option, now in it's new form there are no subscriptions.....wide open access..

BUT even using Quickserve you can't tell if Cummins has any or not....so I intervene a lot of times just for that reason...I can now see the stock on hand at the Harrisburg PDC. I still can't see what the factory has but a quick call to my contacts within Cummins will answer that question....

Bill,

I used a pet VIN / ESN from a '95 w/manual Transmission.....I THINK it's the same....

Napa ,also most hardware stores have small heim joints you vcan get and replace those plastic parts there is a thread on the gen 1section

Stopped by the dealership this morning- the B15 recall is still open on my truck. They're going to get the parts & perform it for me- said it might be a couple of weeks before the parts come in. Sure hope my ty-rap holds up! Thanks, everyone, for all your help!

Thought I would drop a comment here. I had a 96 12 valve prior to my 2003 I have now. I had a similar problem with that Linkage and It caused my truck throttle to jamb when my wife was driving it and almost caused her to crash . I reported it to the NHTSA , and pushed them to investigate and they finally mandated Chrysler to do a recall. That how that new kit came about

96 looks like it was more cable related.

97-98 look to be linkage related.

https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/1998/DODGE/RAM/2%2520DR#recalls

Either way none of it is any fun, glad you spoke up and followed thru, you can actually download the actual reports consumers submitted, they remove the names but the VINs are there and in some cases the city and state of the submissions.
The interesting thing is that I tried to get Chrysler to cover it under warranty and they refused. So I ordered the replacement cable and noticed it had been redesigned. So they knew they had a problem and dident disclose it. So I reported it the NTSA and told them the story. After the recal I submitted my receipt and got a refund

Bill, make sure they replace ALL the parts in the recall kit.

I had the recall done on my '95 years ago at the dealership where I live and almost a year later while I was in Nashville one of the plastic ends broke, leaving me with no throttle. I limped to the Dodge dealership down from where I broke down and their diesel tech replaced the whole rod. Seems like it cost me @ $150.00. I went back to the local dealer and the tech said he only replaced the cable, went to his box and brought the manager the rest of the kit. He tried giving it to me but I told him I wanted it ALL replaced as it should have been and I also gave them the bill from the other dealership.

I can try to dig up the little baggies in the garage tomorrow if you need any other part #'s.
I just did mine over this summer as a PM measure. The old parts were still half way decent, so I put them in the bags that had the new parts in. I did everything. Springs, ball socket thingies....bell crank plastic bushings etc etc.
I removed the entire rod assy, chased the threads and never siezed it before re assembly. Wont freeze now!:-laf
I also remember there being a recall on mine for the T cable too. I carry a spare. :D

My ball stud came out of the cap a couple of months ago( luckily it was very early in the morning and I was only mile or less from my business. I was able to put in 1rst then 2nd and then 3rd . I got to top speed of wopping 15 mph. I thought the cable broke. But when I got back it was the ball had come out of the cup. When I time I took it off . Unfortunately none of the auto parts stores had the cup. I broke down and went to the rip off artist and had to buy the whole metal rod with cups. I will say the cup was well worn out.
But I have not had time to contact the FTC about be gouged by two rip off dealerships. The rod even even though it had to be threaded and of course the cups had to be threaded. But I will take a guess and say this part only cost about $10 to $15 to make. There is shipping and handling. But they charged me to much for that 90 degree hose between heater and the pump and now the throttle linkage is highway robbery!
