Anyone give me a direct comparison between Coopers and Michellins?

What the difference between the HO and STD Cummins?

Has anyone received a recall notice concerning the throttle linkage. Autobytel.com has a campaign # 01V037000 dated Feb. 12 2001. I haven't recieved a notice. Spoke with DM and the person I talked to didn't know anything about it. The notice from autobytel states that DM hasn't yet provided NHTSA wit an owner notification schedule. Had to replace mine last Sept. after returning from the coast. God was looking over me that day. I had given a visual check of engine compartment before leaving and nothing was wrong. Visual check morning after my return showed one strand holding. Would have been bad news if that sucker had let go in the mountains.

Hey, Glad to hear you made it in before she broke. I took mine to Dodge yesterday for new cable. Cost a hundred bucks for a new one. Was also down to single strand. Dealer never heard of recall. Duh! Looking forward to getting the money back. If anyone hears how please let me know.
PS. Bluegrass state is running over with BOMBing Ram owners.

Hi Nate
Posted that couple days ago and this morning 4-12-01 it was reported in the Courier-Journal that DM had issued a recall. Dealer that put mine in last Sept. charged me $271. 00. Hope to get that back now that a recall has been reported by the news media. Register with autobytel.com They have recall for all vehicles and will send maintenance reminders. Service is free.

Hey Chas, thanks for reply. CNN this morning in the little headlines at bottom of screen reported similar recall. Cant believe they got you for over 200.

I just heard about the recall of throttle cables on the news minutes ago as KCJackson pointed out. They also said the hood latch spring also has a recall on the same models. They said hoods were flipping up due to rusting springs. Maybe get both at the same time. Now let's see, How about a new TRUCK recalled to put around our great engine!!!Herb

Here's the text of the recall from the NHTSA. By the way, I had mine replaced 2 years ago, so I imagine DC will be shelling out a LOT of reimbursement checks.

I hear ya Herb. As much as I like the engine, I'm probably going back to chevy with that new diesel. My friends with ford love the truck. Dodge has the engine, but I believe Chevy and Ford have the truck.

My father-in-law just saved me a news paper clipping that says...
"Dodge is recalling 1994 through 1996 Rams with Diesel engines in ALL states" for the Spring on the hood latch.

Yes it was on the news cable and hood latch/ spring, said salt could cause failure. I quess the goverment did some test to find out why they(cable) were breaking.

I notice that the recall on throttle linkages is only for trucks made from July 1993 to July 1996. My '97 was made in August 1996. I have no fraying of the linkage as of yet. Does that mean that there was corrective action taken by DC sometime before August 1996 to prevent the fraying of the throttle linkage?

gchas, when I replaced my cable in '97 it was an entirely different new improved model. That is probably what you have on your rig.

illflem, thanks for reply. I hope you're right! Sounds reasonable.

The recall is not on all 93 to 96 diesel pu's. DC plugs your vin into the computer and says yes or no. My 95 with a frayed cable is not covered. The service writer at my 5star (yea right) dealership has no clue why some are covered and some not.

I called DC, same answer. I called NHTSA and filed a complaint. They said that may get me covered.

Duke have you already replaced yours? If so your truck may be showing up with correct part #. I've replaced mine and I expect a refund.

I bought, but have not yet installed a new cable and hardware. I have no idea why some VIN's qualify for a new cable and some don't.

I think the reason that some VINs may not be included is that the whole recall hasn't been finalized by DC, so far it has just been ordered by the NHTSA may be just based on complaints to them. I think if you wait a bit it should include everything from 94 to 97, they all have same the funky cables.
