After reading up on the forum about why my transmission will come out of lock-up often, I now think I need to replace my TPS. I have gotten to the point where squirting contact cleaner on the shaft works for shorter and shorter periods of time. ( I have separated the wires and changed the temp sender) My question is, if I replace the TPS do I need to do all the adjustments to the linkage and check the voltage as it calls for in the manual. Or should I install the new TPS and see how it works before I check the adjustment.

I have a BD transmission with 30k on it that works really well. But Iam getting frustrated with this minor malfunction. If I keep having these small problems a new 05 six speed might come into the picture.

So please help... . My wife doesn't want to go along with my idea for a new one... ... ... ... BK

Thanks, that's just what I wanted to hear. I was going to take the easy route, unless a problem occurs I will just install the TPS and drive it to see how it performs... ... ... . Thanks BJ

How much does a new TPS cost? I need one too and was wondering what they run and if there different on the diesel trucks or if the gassers take the same one?

The TPS for the gasser is like $35. The one for our truck is like $150. And they are not interchangeable. I don't think. You might check out www.rockauto.com Holeshotholeset set up some sort of deal w/ them.

If it where me, I would at the very least adjust the TPS for proper voltage. No sense spending that kind of coin and not adjusting per factory recommendations. This is of course just MHO.

Do make the effort to adjust the tps,it is an important step and not that difficult. Do it right the first time, save some grief.

This morning I hit it with some more contact cleaner and it is working fine. I'll probably get a new TPS tomorrow and install it. I will check the voltage and adjustments after the install when I have time. I agree that spending money and not setting it up properly isn't the correct thing to do. My only problenm is I can't afford to have my truck down for more than a couple of hours... ... ... ... . Thanks BJ

Do a search on "Bombed the TPS today" it has the pictures for cutting the back off with a dremel tool and then cleaning the contact areas real good. Re-grease the shaft and bushing and then reseal the back of the TPS with a good silicone adhesive. I used 3-M 5200 to do mine. That was over 70,000 miles ago and no problems since. What doi you have to lose? Mess up the TPS and get a new one? That's pretty much where your at now.
