 Anyone had problems with their throttle position sensor. On my way to Morgantown for the game today I had a dead pedal. While climbing the hill out of Cumberland on I68, just as I topped the hill there was no pedal, only idle. Thank God I had just topped the hill and was able to coast to the off ramp for Levale and coasted onto the grass island. After sitting there for about ten minutes with the ignition off, I restarted it and the throttle worked and I was able to continue to Morgantown. The thing I noticed before losing throttle was that the idle increased about 400 rpm's and would not come down to normal idle and the check engine light came on. Does this sound like the throttle position sensor, and if so how hard to replace and at what cost?

My '99 had an erratic APPS that went to idle intermittently. I didn't notice the 400 rpm increase beforehand. I had this happen throughout a trip from Alaska to the Lower 48 but made it to Lewiston, Idaho before getting it fixed. At the time (2001), this was a warranty item for my truck, and the replacement was free and took less than an hour in the dealer shop. The mechanic told me that he had seen lots of APPS failures.

I had the exact problem on my 01. Was on warranty and took only about an hour to fix. Monday morning I take my 01 in for basically the same problem with the tack. Its sensor (crankshaft) is acting up. Tack works then don't etc. Little engine light comes on etc.

Used my code reader and got P0121 PD. Deinitely a throttle position sensor code. Even though I know the PD stands for pending, I don't know what that means. Erased code after reading. Will do a search on reset. Thanks

if you have a manual transmission you can turn on the ignition switch (but don't start), disconnect the batteries for 15-30 minutes, hook everything back up, and depress the throttle all the way to the floor and back up slowly. this will re calibrate everything. If it happens again, probably need to replace the apps. if it's an auto transmission, there is some method for recalibrating it using a volt meter, don't know for sure.

APPS Issue

My 01 had the APPS issue in the summer as I was towing 10,000 lb trialer across I-68 & then on down the Blue Ridge Parkway. I finally called my buddy that has helped me do some work on my truck. He runs a shop in E. TN that is 99. 9% Dodge/Cummins. He advised me is was the APPS, told me to keep on driving. I got it to his shop a few weeks later, he adjusted the APPS on my truck & it is doing fine. He got the instructions on how to do this from DTT Transmissions. He is an authorized DTT installer. I'm not sure if they pass this out to everyone though. I have done some more performance upgrades to the truck & that is when the issue really showed up.

HTB2 turbo, 100 HP injectors with a Edge Comp box. I did have a DTT auto trany installed. World of difference on an automatic. Dyno at 450HP & 960 torque.
