Throttle rod adjustment

Somebody posted about this earlier, & got no response. Mine has a little slop in the ball joints, & wondering if there is a correct method for adjusting it. With the wear or built in looseness, it looks like you could take up about 1/8" of play, if you went the right direction. Looks a little confusing with both left & right hand threads, plus mine looks bent. Any instructions or ideas?

There is a flat place in the middle of the turnbuckle part. You can hold that with a 4" crescent wrench or a small pair of vise grips. Loosen the lock nuts with a 10mm wrench. Then you can turn the turnbuckle part until the adjustment is like you want. There is a measurement that applies to your automatic trans. See the manual for exactly how that is. It's important so your TPS works right.

If the threaded portion is bent I'd say you are due for a failure. Since it pulls when you use the throttle, the bend is caused by it snapping back to it's stop when you release the throttle (my theory). And it may be the extra heavy duty spring that came with my Jacobs e-brake. I've had three break in less than 100,000 miles. All of them were bent at the threads.

I've bent mine trying to adjust it and bent it straight, they're almost to thin. Don't worry too much about the play. As long as the "break over" (in the service manual) is there, you have full travel. Just keep it lubed.
