There is no substitute for a real engine (Cummins) The fact that they are getting more power than the original 5.9 Dodge Cummins engine package with half the displacement and almost twice the Fuel econ says they have pushed the limits. And the fact that the lower ends are now blowing up proves it. It's sad I really thought they had hit a home run with this engine.

I would not count them out. Remember they have sold tens of thousands of vehicles with the 3.0 and still only a few failures. There are far more out there without a problem than it seems when you only hear about a few failures.

I think there's something else going on. Perhaps quality control? Gotta say with all the V config diesels out there, you hardly hear of a bottom end issue.

Haven't heard anything from my son. He's supposed to be getting a call from Detroit. I'll check in with him tomorrow

Back when I was in Volvo marine diesel school they had a D3 engine come in that had blew apart. The bottom end had failed a few of the rods failed. At least that's what it looked like. If I remember right I think they determined that some how the fuel system attempted to fire the engine out of time or an injector had failed. Ether way it tore the engine apart and Volvo had to replace the engine. The D3 was a 5 cylinder 130-225 hp marine engine package that Volvo Penta offered. The engine started life in a Volvo car. It a really nice compact light engine. I had installed one in a 21' Trophy I had owned a few years back. That said I wonder if this Eco Ram issue is a software issue or an injector issue.

That's an interesting thought

Ok Guys he was supposed to get the truck back today . They were waiting for one exterior engine part to come in. Guess they are trying to stay under a 30 day deadline

Update: The dealer was chasing down a vibration and figured out it was the torque converter and flexplate were cracked. maybe get it back next week

I hope you get that on the ticket.
You know if you start having transmission problems soon down the road, you'll know they lined up the bell the hard way.

Ok final update . Son got his truck back after 5 weeks . Thanks Wayne for suggesting trans problem down the road . Well we will see how it goes

There was a certain number of early ecodiesels that left the factory with improper torque on the rod end cap bolts. ALL of these will fail and FCA has acknowledge this. This
sounds like one of those engines. Sorry for your bad luck.

I wish it was that simple. 2014's, 2015's and 2016's have all had catastrophic engine failures. Can you provide a source indicating FCA has acknowledged ecodiesel engine failures?
