Ok, with all the bashing of dealers going on (for good reason) I thought I would throw into the mix a great dealer. I just had my lift pump replaced, under warranty, with te in tank pump update. Not only did they do the entire pump job in 4 hours flat (not bad considering the amount of work it takes to replace it with an in tank unit) but in that time, they also washed and vaccumed my truck, free of charge. Now, just when you thought it couldnt get any better. . a while back Id ordered a drop in under the rail bedliner, and a rubber bed mat to go on top of that. the parts came in today, and they said because Id been having problems with my almost new truck, they wouldn't charge me for the bed mat, and it saved me $122. 00 :D How's that for service? Big thumbs up to Moss Bros Dodge in San Bernardino, Ca!!!! Oo. Oo. Oo.

It seemed to be running ok, but this is my first diesel and I didnt really know how it was SUPPOSED to run. Now that I have th in tank pump, and the mileage reflash done, its like a whole new truck, with gobs of power and low end torque... Im loving it. The turbo spools faster, and its got a lot more grunt.

I sure hope the new intank pump replacements live up to expectations - as miserable as the outboard pump failures are, at least they CAN be swapped out with relative speed and ease out in the boondocks...

Sounds like you have an EXCELLENT dealership - and I'd sure like to hear more similar stories to help offset the horror stories...

Dang man, what crawled up your *** and died. . cheer up man!

I won't be the one taking a diesel bath to change it. . I make enough money to pay other people to work on my cars. . I like bombing my truck, but I don't like fixing it.

Sorry Scott, my comment sounded harsh but it really was not meant to be. I'm suprised the dealer would upgrade it. Maybe they ran out of lift pumps? doubt it.

When your writing your check after warranty time, rmember the pump will be twice as much and twice as much labor. That was what my comment was based on. But then again, you might not be one to keep a truck too longer after warranty.

Again sorry for coming off like I did, I really did'nt mean it that way!

Well, as an active RVer, we often find ourselves WAY out in the boonies, where the cell phones don't work and service departments are not to be found. I *do* carry a full set of spare pumps and tools - and hopefully could handle an outboard pump change under a pine tree - but the thought of draining a fuel tank (into WHAT?) to drop that tank and make a replacement is NOT one of my greatest or cheeriest thoughts...

NOR is a 30 mile hike to the nearest telephone... ;)

Sometimes failures take MORE than just $$$ to fix! ;) :D

Like I said, hopefully, the actual failure rate of the "latest and greatest" from DC will eliminate this sore spot in their engineering - and the associated issues that go with it...

Instead of dropping the tank, is there a way to somehow cut out an access panel in the bed over the pump and have a cover you can remove/replace which will not compromise the integrity of the bed? I've pondered this forever, with other vehicles I've had, but never got around to analyzing it. I think we'll be alright however with the in tank pump since it won't have the vibration problem, the heat problem, or the issue with trying to pull fluid rather than push it. Granted, it will likely fail at some point, just like everything else. Best one can hope for is monitor it and hope to catch it early.
