2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Thump on takeoff

I went flying on a two week trip with my job, when I came back I noticed a slight thump on takeoff from a stop. Perhaps my truck sitting for two weeks caused damage to something, I don't remember the thump before I left on this trip. It doesn't seem to be a bang like backlash, because it rolls about 5ft before I feel the thump.

I used to have a PowerStroke that did the same thing and coming to find out it was the flywheel. However, I don't have a duel mass flywheel in my Ram, but perhaps there is something in my clutch (I don't know).

My brain storming ideas were:

1. something in the limited slip

2. brakes

3. carrier bearings(Again!)

4. u-joints

5. clutch(kinda doudt it)

6. axle wrap

If any of you folks have any other ideas please share thanks!

Sounds to me like an issue with the center driveshaft support, either bearings or the sliding splines...

Yea... That was my first thought, but I already replaced that center

shaft support bearing.

How long do those bearing last?

refresh my memory...

Does a 98 have drums or discs in the rear? If you have drums it is probably your drums sticking. It doesn't take long for rust to build up on all those spring and levers. Just my $. 02.

I have drums, but I sure wish I had disc. I will defiantly check into that though. Thanks STripp!

Ok... So I went to check to rear brakes and I found oil coming out of the

rear right drum. Looks like my axle seal on that side is leaking again

I just replaced that side a month ago. Perhaps, I didn't put the seals on the right way.



Anyhow, would that leaking seal cause that thump? Nevertheless, I'm going to replace those seals and go from there. I'll give you guys follow up on whats going on later today, thanks.

Good news everyone ! The noise has now quit, I thank everyone for there

help. I think I went away when I was pulling my boat home, thanks again !
