Thunder in Muncie 2004-what to do?

I'll give you a racers opinion here, have the fair ground event and scrap the drag races... . had a heck of a time there last year but we could use a day for the dyno's alone (Dave didn't have enough time) as well as the pulls, the races never feed anyone anyway we all just break a bunch of stuff.

Well, US41 dragway in Morrocco, IN is a hole in the wall kind of place. But its in the middle of a corn field and their might be a McD's 5 miles away, and not much more for a ways.

I wanna know! I wanted to go last year and couldn't. I'm saving to go this year and haddn't heard anythign... . Now I know why. I know of at LEAST 4 trucks from MN that will go where ever it's held. From what I hear... . we'd best bring a trailer!

ya i think it has to be out in the middle of nowhere!! went to TIM this year and it was the best time i have had in along time!!! then went to scheids and it was pretty cool but u were in town and if u gave the go pedal alittle to much u got nailed by the cops and thats all u heard about all day was cops this cops that!! that takes alot of fun out of the event! where ever u make ur choice at Eric we will all be there!! where behind u 100%!!!

So I guess we are looking for a drag strip, some truck pull area, and a place to burnout and donuts. ? Isn't that sorta hard to find in one area. I mean how many miles are people willing to travel from the drag strip to the truck pull?

I was allready traveling 24hours just to show up at the event.



If things are far away, I won't mind traveling to them. As typical Muncie, the Sled pulls, and drag races were rather far apart, but once you arrived, you were there all day. I don't think it would be a big problem to have them spaced out 40 miles, as long as we were there all day, had restrooms, and things to eat.

If we don't have it in Muncie - I won't be able to get out the floorjack and proceed to jack-up a beatup old station wagon... . just so the owner can burn the tires off it.



We can't forget his partner in crime - the guy that owns the zebra striped S-10 with the killer lift kit in the rearend... .



The folks in Muncie were more than happy to have us - I can't say the same for other areas I have been to.....



Wherever it is - the local law enforcement has to be 'cool' with us... . we're rowdy, but there's never any really major permanent damage done.

If it is price, then maybe something could be worked out. I got a real good hitman in the woods... . oopps,, I'll save that for PM's.

I agree. I like the drag races. All three things at one event is part of what made thunder in muncie such a great time.



Also, everyone is making a good point with trying to find a "friendly" place to hold the event.

I'm not sure if anyone's heard of Chandler, IN but they have a pretty good drag strip. Chandler's in southern IN, just outside of Evansville. I'm not sure about a pulling track, but there's surely one closeby.



On edit, I forgot to add that Chandler is a small, quiet Indiana hotrod town, they would probably be ok with our antics.

Ok Eric, just tell us you need to raise the price of addmission. Thunder in Muncie is like Ball State, You cant move it.

More bad news. I just need to stay off the TDR for a while.



I like Muncie I thought it was perfect, although we might have had to park in the corn field for the event next year



Personally I think St. Louis is getting a little to far away from the east coast, although most of us that have been there will drive to where ever it lands because we know what a good time it is.



I agree that the local law enforcement was pretty easy going. It would be nice to find the same if it absolutely has to move.



Sorry to hear about the difficulities Eric. I hope it all works out as best as it can.

I'll do my best to help you get the message without getting too personal. The goal from day one was to get the pulls and the drags in one area. I finally got the track owner to agree to put in a pulling track. I even found someone to put it in for air space at the end of the track. Anyway, the person asked for just under 5 times the amount I have paid previously for just one more day of rental. He won't budge and I won't pay that kind of money. To give you an idea, Indianapolis Raceway Park was $4000 cheaper to rent for 2 days!!!!! We'll be there in 2005, according to IRP track manager Mike Myslinski.



I will investigate Chandler, great area that never gets any attention.

Well... . if your running out of places to look... ... You could always look up here... . probably a bit far... but Brainerd International Raceway, here in MN. They have Drag strips, a road course, and I'm sure they have places where sled pulls could be set up. They have great facilities, as they host the top fuel circut at least once a year. A shot in the dark, but a shot none the less!

I'm working on a plan B for Muncie. It includes another TiM in Utah! Look out Rocky Mountains.....

Whoah! Man that sounds wicked. 2 Events Both Huge in a East / west setting at the same time. That Sounds Absolutly MENTAL! Oo. How about Live feeds between the two events with Kurt Lauder from MTV News LOL! Oh man I am gonna be spoolin' TONS "O DVD Footage this year! Keep us posted on the findings!
