Ticking and rough start this morning

Fired the truck up this morning and it almost died on me. It's not even that cold outside, it's around 32F. She usually fires right up unless it's below 25F or so. What was odd though is that I noticed a light ticking sound. RPM related (faster as the revs climbed). Very light tick sound. Almost like a valve. I've never heard this before. Could it be related to a bad batch of diesel? I just filled it up, and that's the only thing I can really think of, since the KDP fix shouldn't have anything to do with this, plus I didn't notice it until after a new tank of fuel.

Sounds like an overflow valve. When they get old and weak it will cause a little loss of prime, and on my truck it made the ticking noise also. Check your fuel pressure after the lift pump, low pressure is another indication of a bad overflow valve.

Yup

When I called Piers to order an Overflow valve- they're on sale $45 this month - as preventive maintainance, the woman on the phone said they start to tick when they get weak.

Did the ticking go away when it warmed up? Mine has been doing that and going away after about 5 miles.

Actually yeah, it was a little warmer today and the ticking wasn't there, or if it was, it was very light. I'll probably just go ahead and order the kit just to be on the safe side.
