Ok this is getting me worried. I have noticed some ticking in the past and did my best to ignore it as it was intermittent, but now it sounds like a chevy with a stuck lifter! Man, I can't afford new injectors right now. I'm out of warrantee due the the mods I have done and appear to be up a creek. Is there a way to check or test the injectors? If I pulled them would I be able to see any damage or is it going to be microscopic cracks and too small for me to see. I checked the prices a DDP for a set of 90HP injectors with the core charge and it's about 4K. Should I trade it off or bite the bullit and tell the wife that I messed with my engine and broke it. :-{}. Nope I'm not that stupid. I need a good story, something believable. I'm not going down for this. Seriously, any advice would be very appreciated. I really like this truck and don't want to part with it.

Sometimes it can be as simple as carbon build-up on the tips. How many miles are on your injectors? How do you use the truck (ie. do you tow, if so heavy, putt around town, highway miles at 2K RPMs or more)? Sometimes a heavy dose of cleaner fuel treatment will clear it up. I have even drained my filter canister and filled it with SeaFoam, started the truck, shut it down for 30 min then fired it up and drove pretty aggressively to clean it out. It seemed to help mine. Some say not to use SeaFoam but in the couple times I have used it I have not experienced any issues.

I've had the ticking sound before, but it was quieter. This is louder and gets worse as the truck warms up. I just noticed this the other day. I have not driven far in two weeks, work is too close to let the truck get warmed up. I hope it's not a dropped seat (will the hammering of the piston keep it from comming all the way out? :-laf). Any way, It skips as in tick-tick-tick---tick-tick and sounds more like a stuck lifter. I guess it very well could be valvetrain. *%#@$. I casually briefed the wife that I have injectore troubles, she asked how much and I told her. Her response, "trade it". It's paid for, that's why I'm so fond of it, when I owe money on them I'll trade at the drop of a hat. I guess I'll try some Seafoam or power service first. If that doesent help it I'll check the valves. Think of the diesel I'll save, shoot this truck never stops paying for itself!

I went down and got some power service today. It's not ticking? The power service could not be the soloution as I just put it in. I drove a bit and got it to tick only when taking off. That's normal. I work at night now, so I'll check it again on the way to work and home in the morning. It could be carbon. This is making me go crazy. If a seat had dropped far enough to hit a piston it would tick at idle and be constant. It doesn't tick unless driving and not all the time. That's what makes me think it's an injector.
It did not sound too bad tonight until it got warmed up some. I took the long way to work to see how it sounded. It doesn't make a sound at idle or coasting fairly slow. I'll stop and fill it up in the morning and take it out on the highway a bit and see how it does.
Yes, an injector. Put an extra dose of PS and a quart of oil too. It should clear up within 2 tanks.
