My 2001. 5 now needs a tie-rod at the pitman arm. I guess there are no grease fittings and the "no-maintenance" ball joint is now needing replacement after 58,000 miles.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket (except Lukes Link) tie rod end that has a grease fitting. Or a superior replacement over stock???

I've added self tapping zerks in the location you speak of on a few of the "lubed for life" joints. Although you will need an angle drill to do it in place it's a piece of cake, just drill the correct size hole in the cap end of the ball joint and screw the zerk in. A 90° zerk makes greasing easier.

My '95s came stock with a zerk in the pitman arm ball joint, if the rod is the same on your '01 perhaps it can be replaced with the part number from a earlier greaseable one.

I had that tie rod end replaced at 32K miles and the one the dealer put in is greasable. I had all of them replaced, and I have no "lifetime" lubed joints left.

It's interesting to, My 02 truck doesn't have the grease fittings my 95 had. But the upper ball joints have grease fittings on my new truck. None on the lowers. Jeff

mpjmpj,

I checked on that same end, no one makes a aftermarket part as of yet for the '01's. Mine is also shot, I think I'll get an OEM and put my own zerk in it. Hope that helps.
