I believe you are talking about the tie rod that is attached to the steering box arm.
You will need to have a puller or press. I have KD tools front end service kit that has 5 tools for this kind of work, all you need is the tie rod tool that resembles a D that has a bolt to turn and push the stud from the pitman arm. I would not use a 'pickle fork' and hammer as I think it would put a lot of stress on the steering box before it would pop free. The stud is tapered and it will take some muscle and end in a loud pop as the stud pops free. I just rebuilt all my tie rods with Luke's Links a few days ago, no problem. I did apply a little neverseize to the stud to make removal next time easier.
